Fasting - millions of Hindus can't be wrong sophiesan July 15 2004, 08:57:18 UTC
I totally know how you feel - I'm in the same situation. I've been really letting myself go to seed.
Wanna know what fixed me?

A ten day fast.
Seriously, it does a lot of good for the mind and body. I mediate a lot and didn't eat for ten days. I stayed awake for 2 nights straight. It's really cool because after awhile you start to hallucinate and stuff. I saw some pretty fucked up stuff and lost, like, fifteen pounds.

Excercise is cool too, but you don't trip with excercise, do you?

I didn't think so,

i would think not eating for 10 days would mess me up more..like make me all depressed and shit cause i would have no energy in me.

But i dont know. never tried TOTALLY not eating for 10 days. theres always been little bite of food here and there.

Hmm..well it cant hurt right?

i've always wanted to try fasting.

But how will it help the mental part of me?

self control? thats all i can think of. maybe im wrong.

let me know.

your mind starts to open up. you feel a lot better, like you're doing something good for yourself. that releases the same kind of endorphines you get from eating. you just feel better - like you're 'purer' or something. at least that's how i felt. i started to look at things a different way too. i analyzed their significance and, i dunno, i just felt better. i felt rested.
self-control is a biggie. i think that's most of it. you learn to restrain yourself, and you feel better as a result. you feel...clean.

at least i did,

yea that makes a lot of sense..

but i think it would be really tough for me to get through the first day or so.

how did you over come the urge to fill your stomach?

did it take long to just get over the hunger pains?
