While Wendy would hesitate to call herself grateful that Tyler had been called away from their date last night by Manservant Neville, it had made things somewhat easier this morning when she woke up... not feeling like herself.
"Boy! Strange boy in Wendy's bed!"
Of course, that still left Lacey, who was currently brandishing a random sculpture in Wendy's direction.
"Lacey, I's me, Wend...el,"Wendy said as her brain caught up with her mouth. "Wendel Watson, I'm Wendy's cousin. Didn't she tell you I was crashing here?"
Lacey's eyes narrowed, and her grip tightened on the sculpture. "Wendy doesn't have a cousin Wendel."
"Distant cousin," Wendy added quickly. "First time out of Miami, I'm in town for a couple of days, got in late last night, and she said I could stay here. She left for work a couple of hours ago, temping emergency."
"Not so fast, Wendy's hot cousin, if indeed you are," Lacey said, pulling out her cell phone and starting to punch in a number. "I'm going to check your story out."
Since Wendy had not actually left the apartment, naturally her phone hadn't either, so it was probably in her best interests to stop Lacey from finishing. "You're a lot prettier than Wendy said."
Well, that worked insofar as Lacey stopped dialling, a 'say what?' expression clear on her face.
"Wendy's never mentioned just how attractive you are," Wendy continued quickly, so that Lacey didn't have a chance to interrupt. "I mean she didn't say you were ugly, but mostly she talks about how talented and dedicated you are to your art, and how socially aware you are, not how...photogenic you are."
The confused expression was slowly melting into a pleased smile. "You really think I'm photogenic, Wendy's hot cousin?"
"Yes, yes I do." Wendy recognised that look from Lacey, even if it hadn't been directed her way since that one time in art school. This was going to be a very long day.
