Before Starfleet, he'd seen any doctor's fair share of births. Assisted a few, did one nearly single-handedly during a freak lightning storm, and taken the husband role seriously with Jocelyn. So that wasn't what was flooring him about this time around. No, it was that this was Jim, positively glowing with happiness as she cradled her newborn -- ( Read more... )

Despite the pain of the last innumerable hours and how exhausted she was, she'd never felt anything like this before. She couldn't take her eyes off the perfect little thing in her arms. Her daughter. Hers and Bones'. Nor could she do anything to lessen the wide, happy smile on her face. This was undoubtedly the happiest, most perfect moment of her life. The joy of finally holding her in her arms was indescribably and so much better than she'd ever imagined it would be.

"Look at her, Bones," she smiled down at her daughter, "have you ever seen anything so perfect and beautiful in your life? Did we really make her?"

"She is," Jim agreed and pressed a soft kiss to her daughter's forehead. "And she's ours."

She shifted carefully on the biobed to make room for him. "Come here, you should be close to her too. She'll need her dad." The last words were almost whispered, a few happy tears starting in her eyes, knowing that her daughter would never know how it was to be without a parent.

Careful not to jostle her arms, Leonard joined Jim on the bed, wrapping an arm around her back, the other moving to rest alongside hers cradling Georgia. He pressed a kiss to the side of Jim's head as he gently ran his fingers over their daughter's head.

"I hope she does, yeah," he said quietly, a little in wonder. "I know I need her and her momma."
