Matt was scared. Al had left--been chosen and snatched up by some other person and even if the people he asked--over and over--told Matt that he had been chosen by another man before Al had, he was still left waiting. Gone were the nights where Al petted his hair and Matt clung to him and they fell asleep in a pile of limbs on Al's bed. Matt's bed was lonely. He wanted Al back so badly.
He clung to his pillow for a little while, staring sadly at the floor, but then the door opened and a man walked in. Tall, wavy blond hair, a bright but almost hesitant smile greeting Matt. His eyes opened wide and he straightened slightly. The man knelt in front of him and ruffled his hair just a little. The gesture reminded him of Alfred in some fond way and he smiled a little.
"Allo Matthieu. I am going to be your Papa."
Matthew nodded slowly, stumbling over his words as he replied, "H-hello...I...N-nice to meet you." Manners had been instilled in him from his mother and that made tears threaten to fall. He quickly swiped at his eyes with his sleeve.
"Ah mon cher, do not cry." Matthew found himself swept into arms that held and comforted him and he hesitated. This wasn't Alfred. Was it ok to hug back...would Al be upset he hugged someone else? But Al wasn't here...and he was so tired of being alone. He clung to the man's chest and buried his face.
"Come now mon petit. Let us go home."
Bags were packed, Matthew relegated to watching and giving the barest whispers of instructions. Then there was a short car ride and then a new house. It was so cozy and bright inside. And he even had his own room, full of toys and a bed and a huge stuffed animal.
"He's yours if you want mon petit." Papa gestured the bear as he sat down beside him and smiled. Matthew looked down at the bear and smiled, holding it up. It was almost as big as he was really but he loved it. He cuddled it intently.
"Kuma."
"Hmn?"
"I'm going to name him Kuma." Matthew said, with a bit of determination. It was his bear after all, right?
"As you wish dear."
"...Thank you...Papa."
