Egypt was one of the places Helen always wanted to visit more often. It seemed like the only time she managed to go was when the Cairo Sanctuary was in need of her assistance. Being the Head of the Sanctuary Network of course meant that, more often than not, she was visiting Sanctuaries all over the world. More frequently now that everything was in a state of rebuilding after the Cabal attacks earlier in the year.

"I am sorry to call you so far out of your way, Dr. Magnus."

"It's perfectly fine, Pili." Helen walked alongside the Head of the Cairo Sanctuary. "You only call if it's urgent."

Pili nodded, her head covered in the traditional Muslim garb. "I hope you are prepared to travel. We need to head two kilometers from the west of the Nile, near Abydos."

Helen looked over at her. "Isn't Mr. Zahi Hawass constructing a dig near the area?"

"Yes... he is."

"Oh, well, it will be a damn shame when he realizes the Pharaohs of Egypt weren't quite what he thought they were." Helen smiled, making Pili shake her head with a slight smile on her face. Pharaohs were vampires, after all.

The trip to the small settlement near the Nile had been completely tapped off by the Cairo Sanctuary. Local authorities had handed the case over to Pili once they realized that the victims weren't actually human. They appeared human, of course, but touching their smooth slimy skin would create one hell of a shock to anyone who wasn't prepared. Helen stepped over the tape and moved over to one of the body bags, unzipping it just enough to find the state of the body.

"Dear God." She looked over at Pili. "Pili, what happened?"

"The local authorities are blaming it on a chemical experiment." Pili gestured to the burns on the body. "Given that they are some sort of acidic burn. However the true cause is something we cannot pinpoint. We've begun moving some of the bodies to the Sanctuary."

"How many are dead?"

"About ten. It is a small population."

Helen closed the bag and bit her lip, looking at her. "I want to keep at least one body here and set up a small sample lab. It's entirely possible that if we move too far that the chemical might dissipate due to the heat. I've never seen a chemical burn like this before. The only thing close is to the booby traps within tombs."

"Which gives question as to why it's here."

"Exactly." Helen nodded, reaching into her pocket and pulling out her mobile. Pili turned back towards the local police force to give the instructions. Helen looked around the small settlement again before scrolling through the menus of her mobile. Someone else might know more about this than she did.

Hopefully she wasn't catching him at a bad time. Not that she was entirely expecting him to show up.

Egypt, August 3rd, 2010. 9km east of Abydos. Bring some sun lotion. Helen.
