[58] Making an Effort

Aug 03, 2011 23:10

[So, Cissie has not exactly been Ms. Social lately. She's basically been doing her shifts in the infirmary, doing the inventory thing she shares with Howie, and, of course, spending some time in the gym with her archery. Otherwise, she has not been going out of her way to be social or to be out and about, with the notable exception of the rum ball/ ( Read more... )

You're welcome. [He's sounding a little uncertain, as usual. Although this is finally one little spot of heroism he has all to himself for once. He just isn't sure how to handle it.] I wasn't affected last time.

You were pretty awesome, you know. [Well Isaac, you are going to get some praise. Deal with it.] And good. Neither was I, but at least this one was less awkward than the one last year. Did that one get you, or did you get to miss them both?

[He almost goes into the whole "I wouldn't call that awesome" ordeal, but he refrains. He's just happy Cissie didn't get dino-nommed.] That one missed me as well. I haven't been hit by a flood in awhile.

That's good. I've missed the last couple too, thankfully. Some are better than others, at least.

I don't think I've seen you shoot as an adult.

You're welcome to watch anytime. I'm a lot better than I was when I was little.

Plus I get the bonus of seeing how far you've come. While you can have certain physical advantages, it never replaces hard work.

I am quite a bit better than I was at that age, but there have been more than a few years of practice between then and now.

[Have a little smile, Bruce. She's trying!] No, I--would really like that. If you want to. I do think getting you out of the lab wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

[And Cissie's smile turns a little sad.] It--I want to be friends. I've missed you. And you're not--you're still you, really. I'm willing to start over. I mean... I'd rather get to know you now and let you get to know me than to not know you, just because you don't remember. If... that makes any sense.

Anyway, we can do them in the CES. I have some equipment in the gym, but... [BLONKSY IS THERE. A LOT.] The CES might be better anyway.

I could say hello sometime. Also--archery sounds like fun. At the very least, I can hang out with you while you're teaching.

Also... Sylar has been... weirdly interested in my well-being. I'm not complaining, but it's... Like I said. Weird. I think we might be almost kind of friendly?

How are you doing?

That would be awesome. He's so quiet. I think he feels like he shouldn't have friends, or something. Or he's just that painfully shy. But you should definitely try archery--I bet you'd be great at it. I wouldn't say no to hanging out, though. This is kind of getting a bigger response than I thought it would, honestly.

[PAUSE. Fwah.]

...Huh. That's--good? I mean, if you hated each other, I would have a headache on my hands, so I'm glad you're getting along? But yeah. Interesting. Has he said why, or is it just... random?

I'm okay. I'm past the sulking and moping, at least. How about you?

Maybe I'll just hang out, then. One less person with a pointy object that doesn't know what they're doing will probably be a relief. We can try the archery thing when things settle down a bit.

Well, the last time we talked, it was about the Jurassic Pork (Cissie, it was so cool, even though I accidentally brought down some electrical fences and may have set a dinosaur on Marco and me), and he said that if I died he'd never hear the end of it.

I'm okay--I'm sorry about Kon. I know you two are close.

I'm thinking personal lessons is better than big groups. If only for my sanity and the safety of everyone else in the gym. So I'm game whenever you are!

Molly. You totally loved that movie when you were a kid, didn't you? And--wait. What kind of dinosaur?

...Yeah. And I'm sorry too. I know you were friends, too.
