I personally do not have a lot to tell you, Matt, since I just started coming out this year. This kind of story saddens, angers, and hurts me. Police are people, too, with the same prejudices, hates, and (most of all) fears as the public. I don't mean to excuse their behaviour, just to point out that a badge doesn't make a person good, or bad. Send me your address, love. hugs.
i also don't have much to tell you, sorry. i don't trust the police at all nor our judicial branch (or gov't in general on a lot of issues). i think i lost faith in them when i was in sixth grade and i saw my dare officer smoking in the parking lot. i can tell you about a lot of stories involving people unfairly getting screwed over by the police/gov't/authority, but not many of them are directly linked to glbt issues (or also stories of glbt people getting screwed over, but not by police, etc.).
Hey Marius, I don't have many direct stories from myself, but I think if I made a few quick phone-calls I could come up with a few.... I do know of one common occurance, which sadly enough, happens quite often to a few of my friends. It has to do with LGBT oriented bumper stickers on cars, some of those stickers, which, as I'm sure you can guess, would 'out' the driver/owner to anyone that could read them.
One of my friends, who lives in Rochester, MN, has been pulled over more than once and questioned on the road by police because of a few of her "gay-friendly" bumper stickers. There is no other justification for pulling her over, except to harass her a bit about them, in a most disrespectful way, asking her to "explain herself." Seeing as she is a lesbian, but most importantly is in High School, the hostility goes up just a few notches because of her age...
If that little bit of something helps at all, I can talk to her to see if I can get more information....
I was going to e-mail a few people for you, but then I realized that the person listed as the contact person on the webiste you linked to is a really good friend of mine from school. So I'm sure he's already talked to all the Wesleyan folks I could have hooked you up with!
Funny.
You know, he told me a week ago that he got his dream job at Amnesty, but I guess I didn't really realize what that meant!
