Gael: *RING*
Gael: *RING*
Gael: *RING RING RING*
Gael: *RRRRRINNNNGGGGG*
Diego: 'What? Jesus Christ, punta...' Your ringtone is the most annoying one he could find.
Gael: 'Go read your journal, cock-sucker.'
Diego: He pads over to his computer and goes to the page. Pause. Read. 'You want to KISS me?'
Gael: 'No, but I am going to.'
Diego: 'What the fuck score IS this, anyway?'
Gael: 'Dios, Dee, is your attention span so *very* short?'
Diego: 'Or are you being so very cryptic? Also, you woke me up.'
Gael: 'Bien. Muy Bien: you need it.'
Gael: 'Less beauty sleep.'
Diego: 'Hmph. That's right, I hardly need to be MORE beautiful.'
Gael: 'Si, you're bordering on ugly as it is.'
Diego: 'Mmhmm. Says Mr. Assy himself. So why a kiss? I don't get how that'll even things out.'
Gael: 'Because it was your idea last time. Now we'll be even. This may not be for a movie, but it does give a since of balance.'
Gael: *he sounds fairly high*
Diego: 'Italian weed makes you fucked in the head, mi amigo. Haven't we had this talk before?'
Gael: 'Have we?' *he laughs*
Diego: 'Si. Three months ago, when you called me and cried all over me because your dog died when we were seven?'
Diego: 'That was the Italian weed talking.'
Gael: 'Oh, shove it up your loose little ass-- oh, wait, have we stopped doing that now?'
Diego: 'I don't know...*can* we stop it?'
Gael: 'If you tell me it upsets you I will.'
Gael: *his voice is.. oddly tender*
Diego: 'You know...if I tell you it upsets me, you'll just go around believing that it upsets me because it hits too close to home.' His own voice is rough and sleepy.
Gael: 'What if I promise not to?'
Diego: 'I just shouldn't let it get to me. It's stupid. I know I'm straight. I know, believe it or not, that you're straight.'
Gael: 'Then let's stop ragging each other about it.'
Diego: 'We are straight. We do not secretly lust after each other. We are just normal, heterosexual best friends.'
Gael: 'Exactly. There is no secret lust.'
Diego: 'Yeah, we should, but that's easier said than done.'
Gael: 'Well, I'll try to bite my tongue if you bite yours.'
Diego: 'Nah, really. It's okay.'
Diego: 'This is just what we do.'
Diego: 'It's just good to remind ourselves it's all bullshit sometimes.'
Gael: 'No, fuck it, Dee. I love you too much to upset you. And it gets to me too, sometimes.'
Gael: 'More than sometimes.'
Diego: 'You know, we should talk about this in person. I'm not sure I'm ready to grow up just yet.'
Diego: 'I mean...the whole rest of the world expects us, especially you, to be so worldly and sophisticated.'
Gael: 'Fine, then. Kiss or no, I'll still be there soon.'
Diego: 'Good, I'd hate to think you're flying across the Atlantic just to kiss me.'
Gael: *he laughs*
Gael: 'Would I do something that foolish?'
Diego: 'Only on the Italian weed.'
Gael: *he giggles at that and plops down onto his bed*
Gael: 'I wish you were here, Dee.'
Diego: 'What would we be doing if I were?'
Gael: 'What do you think we'd be doing?'
Diego: 'Getting all sentimental on bad pot.'
Gael: 'Better than getting sentimental alone.'
Gael: 'I miss you.'
Diego: He smiles and curls up on his bed, settling in for a long talk. There's a rustle of covers as he burrows back underneath the duvet against the chill in the air. 'Mmm. I miss you too. I know you hate it, but would you like to bring Natalie to the Havana Nights premiere?'
Gael: 'I would love to. And I don't hate that movie, Dee. I can't wait to see you dance.'
Diego: 'Really? ' He sounds surprised. 'I thought you thought it was all stupid, making a dancing movie.'
Gael: 'Shhh. I say that to make myself feel better.'
Diego: 'Feel better? That you're off making ALMOOODOVAR movies while I'm nancying around San Juan getting laid?'
Gael: *he laughs* 'Fuck off, Diego. Si, that you are making so much of yourself.'
Diego: 'Nah. Not as much as you, mi amigo. I'm just having fun. Most of the time.'
Gael: 'I'm not.' *quietly*
Diego: 'You're not having fun? That's not like you, GiGi.' He flips onto his belly, cuddling his pillow tight.
Gael: 'I... it's difficult.'
Diego: 'Explain it to me. One of the side effects of these dumb, fun hollywood movies is that I can afford to talk across the world to you as long as you need to.'
Gael: 'Almodavar is... is brilliant, yes, but very difficult to work with. I.. I shouldn't talk about this.'
Diego: 'Difficult? What do you mean? We've had demanding directors before.'
Gael: 'It is hard to say, Diego.'
Diego: 'Not to me it's not.'
Gael: 'He's hit on me.'
Diego: 'Hit on you? Aw, Dios, Gael, you don't need that shit.'
Gael: 'No, I don't. I didn't know what to do, either.'
Diego: 'You must've done something? You didn't let him treat you like that, did you?'
Gael: 'I told him I wasn't interested.'
Diego: 'And he of course respected that like the gentleman he is.'
Gael: 'Well, not quite'
Diego: 'Not...quite?' His voice is low...a little dangerous. 'Did he touch you, Gael?'
Gael: 'Si, he touched me.' *his voice is quiet, shamed*
Diego: *he lets loose a soft stream of invective that makes even your hair curl* 'Tell me you told him off, GiGi. Tell me you punched his cabron lights out.'
Gael: *he laughs* 'He's the director, Dee. I just pushed his hand out from under my skirt and tried to divert him.'
Diego: 'Director, si, but God, no. Nobody treats you like that.'
Gael: 'Aww, are you rushing to my rescue?'
Diego: 'You want me to get on a plane and kick his ass for you?'
Gael: *he laughs* 'No, Diego. You do not need to do such a thing.'
Diego: 'Don't let him do that to you. You don't need his patronage. You're already a star.'
Gael: 'Si, but with his patronage, I will have a great many doors open to me.'
Diego: 'What does that mean? You're going to let him touch you?'
Gael: 'No, Diego. Not quite.'
Diego: 'Gael, please, just say it, whatever it is.'
Gael: 'I let him kiss me.'
Diego: There's a long silence. 'You did. Just the once?'
Gael: 'A few times. Not often.'
Diego: 'Did you like it?' Softly.
Gael: 'Ew, Diego, what sort of question is that?'
Diego: 'A valid one, considering you just asked me to kiss you.'
Diego: 'Do you need to get his taste out of your mouth, mi amigo?' His voice isn't accusatory, for once, or outraged. He sounds...tender.
Gael: *he sighs* 'Si, Diego. It doesn't seem to work when I kiss girls.'
Diego: 'I thought the only girl you were kissing was Natalie.'
Gael: 'Well. No. I kissed another girl. Natalie knows about it.'
Diego: 'Does she know you want to kiss me? Or...well, I guess *want* is the wrong word. Isn't it?'
Gael: 'She knows.'
Diego: 'Please don't let him do that to you anymore.'
Gael: 'Diego...'
Gael: *he sounds frustrated*
Diego: 'If you let him kiss you, he'll want more.'
Diego: 'He'll demand it.'
Gael: 'I know, Diego, but I have to be careful in how I do this.'
Diego: 'So you have a plan?' He sounds so distressed, but he's trying to hide it, burrowing under his covers so deep his voice is muffled.
Gael: 'Well. No.' *he laughs* 'But I'm working on one.'
Diego: 'I'm glad you're coming here. Even if it does mean I have to kiss you. You need to get out of there.'
Gael: 'We don't have to kiss, Dee.'
Diego: 'Yes, we do if you need it. I don't like the idea of that...person's...taste in your mouth.'
Gael: 'Si.' *he sighs* 'But I hate using you like that.'
Diego: 'Hey...GiGi, listen up. You're not *using* me. This is what brothers are for.'
Gael: *he burst into laughter* 'Maybe YOU'D use your brothers for kissing, but not ME.'
Diego: 'I dont have any brothers, punta. You know that. Fuck, I'm just saying I'd do anything for you.'
Gael: *that causes him to pause* 'Si," he says finally. "I love you, Dee."
Diego: 'I...I love you, too, you sappy little bastard.'
Gael: 'I know. Now let's get the hell over this sappy shit.'
Diego: 'Si. Por favor. This is...embarrassing.''
Gael: 'Fucker,' *he laughs*
Diego: 'Can't you come sooner?'
Gael: 'How much sooner?'
Gael: *he laughs* 'You that eager for me to kiss you?'
Diego: 'No! Can't I miss mi mejor amigo?'
Gael: 'When do you want me?'
Diego: 'Now. Tomorrow. Not two weeks from now.'
Gael: "Tomorrow?" He sits up, brow knitting. "So soon?'
Diego: 'I'm kidding, Gael. I wouldn't ask you to leave that nasty punta bendejo before you could.'
Gael: 'How about day after tomorrow?'
Diego: 'Serious? You can do that?'
Gael: 'Yeah, I seriously can.'
Diego: There's the sound of bedsprings creaking as he obviously jumps on the bed. 'Awesome!'
Gael: "You'd better be there to pick me up, punta'
Diego: "I'll be THERE! You know I will.'
Gael: "Bien. I'll e-mail you the flight information once I have it."
Diego: 'Try to stay away from him between now and then, si?'
Gael: "I will, Diego. I promise.'
Diego: 'I'll still come beat up the old queen anytime you want.'
Gael: "Shh, Diego. There is no need."
Diego: 'Anyone hurts you, there's a need.'
Gael: 'You sound like a jealous boyfriend, Dee."
Diego: 'We've been sticking up for each other how long, now?'
Gael: 'Forever. I know, Diego." He sighed, running a hand over his face. "It's just different this time.'
Diego: 'Nah, s'not different. It's just evolved. This time, I wouldn't use my fists. Just my words.'
Gael: 'I can't piss this man off, Dee.'
Diego: 'I'd tell him you are brilliant, and famous, and the most amazing actor of your generation, and that you don't need his patronage. Gael, he was a force to be reckoned with ten years ago. He made his splash, and however good his movies are now, he's past his prime in the industry. Think about it.'
Gael: "I know, Diego, but he still has influence and I can't piss that off at this point in my career. All I need to do is tread water for a bit and it will be over."
Diego: 'What if he gives you a black-and-white demand, GiGi? What if he says 'bend over and let me fuck you, or I'll ruin your career'?'
Gael: "Then I'll tell him he has no control over my career.'
Diego: 'Okay. Good. So why can't you do that when he tries to make out with you? Surely, he's a smart enough man to realise that he cannot afford you, say, pressing charges. Which, you know, you have EVERY right to do.'
Gael: "Diego, please. Drop it. I can handle this.'
Diego: He sighs. 'Okay, Gael. I just...it makes me feel so full of rage, thinking of someone I love being treated like that. And me being powerless to help? Also not easy.'
Gael: "I know, Dee. I would go crazy if our positions were reversed." He sighs, echoing you. "It's just complicated right now. But it won't be soon; soon I'll be in Mexico with you."
Diego: 'And everything's simpler here.' His voice is quiet.
Gael: 'Si. Everything's simpler.' Lies. Lies lies lies.
Diego: 'Or, you know, at least easier.' Lies. Lies lies lies.
Gael: 'So, I will e-mail you with my flight information."
Diego: 'Si. I'll be there for you.'
Gael: "You always are. Adios, Diego.'
Diego: 'Adios, mi amigo.'
