All the explanations in the world wouldn't make either the Rockbells or Al understand why Edward suddenly needs to go to Central, so all he does is leave a note early in the morning before taking off at about one AM. It explains where he's gone ( to the city, to see an old friend ) and that he'll be back as soon as possible. He catches the last ( Read more... )

For once in his life, Ed's propensity for being loud is serving him well. That may not be immediately apparent to Ed, of course. In the mansion, however, the Fuhrer's phone begins to ring. Roy looks up from his paperwork and lifts the receiver from its cradle.

"This is Mustang."

"Your Excellency, this is Sergeant Mills reporting. We've apprehended an intruder on the grounds; he seems to be quite agitated. We're currently not experiencing any difficulties in removing him, but we wished to make you aware of the situation in case he has accomplices, or manages to get free. I've dispatched several men to make a thorough search of the grounds, just in case."

Roy leans back in his chair. "Good work, sergeant. Assign two or three to escort him back into town, and do not hesitate to call an MP squad if he begins to- Wait, just a moment."

"Yeah," Ed says, and tugs at his collar to straighten it; he gives the man a smoldering 'I fucking told you so' look. "I got no reason to try anything, but you better keep your hands off me. He's gonna hear about this, I swear..."

"You will speak to the Fuhrer as much as he wishes you to," Mills replies. "If you are dismissed, you will be escorted back into the city." The crunch of gravel and purr of an engine signal the arrival of a vehicle, and Mills opens the door.

"Please get in."

It is, after all, not only faster to take a car, but any suspicious persons will be contained.

"He dismisses me, I dismiss his face," Ed responds, but he makes sure to mutter it under his breath. He might be dumb, but he's not that dumb, and he's not looking to get restrained again.

He obeys and gets into the car, and tries to arrange himself into the picture-perfect image of someone who is Entirelly Innocent Of Any Crime. Which he is, really! Unless having once let the Fuhrer bang you up the ass earned you years in jail.
