It's odd thinking that a year ago everything was so incredibly wrong and uncertain. What strikes me now is how little information we had, how little we could say for sure and the ways we coped with that uncertainty, either by quickly finding something stable (such as finding a school or job) or by tuning out, or by relying on friends and family. 1. You're listening to Bartok. I love you

2. This entry is just like a column Mark wrote for the Columbia newspaper (minus a zillion pretentious-sounding vocabulary words). Seriously. I have it somewhere in my inbox (along with 52492374293 college spam); he emailed it to me when it came out.

3. Soon they'll figure out that your life isnt' only Katrina, and that you prefer to talk about other things (*cough* genocide in Darfur! *cough). It's just that beginning of the year awkwardness.

4. People here know what today is, don't worry.

5. When should I call you? Or you can give me a long email. Or call me. Or do snail mail.

Call me any time. If I don't answer, I'll find a time to call you back in the next day. MWF I have an amazing break between 11:30 and 1:15. Tuesday/Thursday, I have literally nothing after 11:30. Wednesdays are the worst (if I take the no-credit seminar that I think sounds amazing on Urdu poetry, then I'll be getting out at 9. All these times are Eastern by the way. That makes Wednesdays slightly better, but not by much. Also, you have school then. Earlier is better than later though, because generally, things get in full swing later at night rather than early in the afternoon.

Yeah, the point is, I will call you back. Its just harder to initiate calls, especially these first days, since they've been trying to take up all our time in inane activities to prevent us from going to parties and getting drunk (yeah, like I'd do that anyway).
