The trap takes place in a setup of five chambers, all adjacent to the center chamber and with a one-way hallway leading from three of the outer chambers to the fourth outer chamber. The center room contains four monitors on the walls, each of which shows a different one of the outer chambers and a different Young Avenger. Speakers connect all five rooms so everyone can hear each other, but only Timothy in the center chamber can see anything outside his own room. On a small table are strewn four cards, not in any particular order and with no other clues as to what they mean. Hanging in each room is a large timer that starts off at one hour - these all tick down in sync.

Upon the five teenagers waking up in their respective chambers, an anonymous mechanical voice begins the test with these words: "Today your communication and willingness to work together will be tested. For a team, you have fallen prey to your individual flaws and your bonds have splintered. You will be tested individually, but remember - your fates are links in a chain. If one fails, the central chamber where your friend Timothy sits will be filled with a deadly nerve gas, killing him slowly and painfully before the rest of you perish alone." Then the timer will begin to tick down, signifying the start of the test.

Chamber One: Patience
"Patience is also a form of action."
Tommy will wake alone in a room . The only things with him inside this first chamber are a table with a large, deep fishtank of broken glass and barbed wire sitting upon it, and a smaller countdown timer on the wall beneath the main timer, this one starting at 5 minutes. Behind the table is a large, barred door with a single keyhole. As soon as he awakens the 5 minute timer starts counting down, and while the immediate answer is to find the key hidden in the box of glass and wire and unlock the door, this will cause him to fail the test as per Timothy's card regarding this chamber. If Tommy waits the full five minutes without opening the door, it will disappear and be replaced by a switch, which will open the real door and a pathway will take him to Billy's chamber.

Chamber Two: Guidance
"Let the guided be the guide."
Kate wakes blindfolded and unable to remove the cover from her eyes. Only Timothy can see the room she's in - a long maze of jutting blades and broken glass. The card that goes with this test is "Let the guided be the guide." - meaning Timothy has to be the one to direct her through. A wrong move into a wall and she could be impaled on knives and glass, get too close to a wall and cuts are inevitable. Once she makes it through the maze, the blindfold will fall away and her switch will be revealed, which will open a pathway to Billy's chamber.

Chamber Three: Identity
"Who you were is just as important as who you are."
Teddy wakes in a tiny room, as if his chamber has been filled and blocked with several walls. The immediate solution is obvious - shift to Hulkling and smash down each wall, but after the walls are cleared out, he'll hit a seemingly dead end. At the end, there is nothing but a small tunnel, set in the middle of the wall, lined at the top with razor blades. It's impossible to fit into as Hulkling, and he'll get terribly sliced up as Teddy, so he'll have to shift to the skinny kid he used to be before he tried so hard to fit in with the athletes at school. The razor blades will still reach him, but the cuts will be more superficial, not very deep. At the end of the tunnel is a switch, which will open the other end of it and open the pathway to Billy's chamber.

Chamber Four: Unity
"In union there is strength."
Billy's room will be empty but for a switch on the wall. If he leaves it alone, nothing happens. If he activates the switch early, the ceiling starts to drop, slowly and with increasing pressure. If no one arrives to help him hold it up, he will be crushed beneath it, but the combined strength of all four of the Young Avengers will keep the ceiling up long enough for the real switch to appear and be pressed. This will open a door leading into the central chamber.

Once everyone has reached the central room, the final switch will open the door back into the Facility.
