{Kaoru was elated. Despite the circumstances surrounding the whole thing, it was a joyous occasion, and you only got married once. (Well...for most people, that is.) They were surrounded by friends, in a safe place, and, well, she was married. She couldn't quite get over that fact, almost afraid that it was a dream (though, in her dreams it hadn't ( Read more... )

[Mixed emotions didn't begin to cover it. He was still seething under the surface about the Kiheitai targeting Kaoru. He had finally calmed so that it didn't constantly show on his face, but even so when he smiled the anger could still be seen a little in his eyes.]

[He was, of course, elated that he and Kaoru had finally said the vows and were married. Actually married. He had never thought he would be in this situation again. To say it gave him renewed strength to ensure the fools didn't succeed would also be an understatement.]

[He glanced to his wife, smiling tiredly at her.]

[Himura Kaoru.]

[Even with all that had happened... that simple phrase--those two names entwined together--boggled his mind. How he deserved her, he would never know. But he would protect her, and he would make her happy. It was a silent oath to himself, although he was sure she knew it as well without him telling her.]

{She looked back at him, a bit of the nervousness leaving her expression. Moving a bit closer to him, she took his hand, squeezing it gently. The tired look about him worried her, so she spoke in a lighthearted tone.}

I hope you know that just because we're married now, doesn't mean I'm going to start doing all the housework.

[Her humor cut through his tiredness and worry and he had his first real laugh in days. He squeezed her hand lightly.]

Of course not de gozaru.

[He resisted the urge to touch her hair while others were in the room, despite the fact that the only people who would find it forward would be Megumi-dono, Mudou-dono and Miroku-dono. Well... arguably the kitsune-woman would find it terribly amusing rather than forward... Instead he gave her hand a second squeeze, smiling at her, the expression finally fully reaching his eyes.]

{Kaoru felt better when he cheered up a bit. Looking from him to the others in the room, she said in a low voice,}

...I think I like this better than a large wedding. It's nice.

{Though, in the back of her mind she wished she could replace a few people with her friends from back home.}

[She had never sat through a wedding quite like that one. Short and sweet. She liked that. She did find it odd that neither Kaoru nor Kenshin really touched eachother at all during the ceremony. Wasn't there normally a kiss of some kind? Or at least holding hands ( ... )

{Kaoru looked quite happy to see Doris.}

I'm so glad you could come~! And thank you! Again.

{Even though she was sincere, her thoughts were obviously elsewhere.}

[She didn't think that Kaoru could have looked happier--at least until she walked up to her. There was a nagging voice telling her that Kaoru must not have really known half the people in the room.]

[She grinned.] I was happy to. I'm honored that you invited me. [Her brow creased a little at Kaoru's gratitude.] And it's not a problem, really. If you need anything, anything at all, let me now, okay?

But... [She glanced at the door.] D is still waiting out there... and we really should be going. [She looked back to Kaoru and without ceremony reached out and pulled the other woman into a friendly hug.] You two stay safe, okay?

The same goes for you! I'm always happy to help out when I'm needed.

{Kaoru nodded as Doris said she had to leave.} That's alright, I understand! This was such short notice any--

{Kaoru turned rigid when Doris pulled her into a hug. It was unexpected, and Kaoru didn't know why and had no warning. Not really knowing what to do she just kind of stood there, looking rather flustered.}

Y-You stay safe too!

[Megumi had watched the ceremony quietly, a scarlet smile curved upon her lips that was both knowing and bittersweet.]

[When all was said and done, she moved up to greet the newlywed couple by giving them a deep bow.]

Congratulations and well wishes, Kaoru-san, Ken-san.

[However, her fox ears seemed to twitch a moment, and without warning, she gave her Ken-san a hug.]

Perhaps one last hug for now, perhaps~? Ohohohoho!

[She moved away with a smug grin and returned to Kaoru-san.] Let me have a word with you, Kaoru-san~? ♥

[He was about to thank her for her well wishes when she grabbed him.]

Oro!?! [She let go much faster than normal, leaving him with a terrible blush on his face--really on his wedding day.]

Kitsune-women...

{Kaoru smiled when Megumi came up to them, happy that she was there.}

Thank you, Megumi-san--!

Megumi-san!!

{Well, she had been happy to have her there...would it ever end?!}

Can't. It. Wait?!

{Kaoru was actually blocking Kenshin by now, looking rather possessive.}

[Megumi giggled to herself.]

The marriage bed hardly waits, Kaoru-san. And this is precicely about that~.

[Pulling Kenshin aside for a moment she speaks covertly.]

There was a distinct lack of kissing during that ceremony.

[ooc: Did they ring exchange dear?]

[He leaned in to hear what Eliza-dono had to tell him and blushed profusely when she made her statement.]

Mou, Eliza-dono it is extremely improper to hold hands in public de gozaru. Why would we kiss in front of our guests at our wedding de gozaru ka? Lang-dono made the same remarks...

[He was really starting to question the morals of all Westerners in general...]

Because you are supposed to seal your love with a kiss. I'm not saying you should have slipped her the tongue or shoved your hand up her kimono.

THAT would be improper.

[He was rather taken aback.]

[ooc; screwing with cultures is so fun XD]

*It had been quite some time since he had attended a wedding... he believed the last one had been Kaien's, and Byakuya's. It was very nice to see a rushed but somewhat traditional Japanese wedding, and Kenshin's new wife seemed to be a wonderful woman.

While he was very happy for them, he also worried... because he always worried. This threat they had upon them was not a small one and he did not think it was right that good people had to hide like this. Life never seemed to be fair, did it?*

Congratulations to you both.

[Kenshin smiled warmly, although clearly very weary, at Ukitake-dono.]

Katajikenai, Ukitake-dono.

*smiles back, and bows his head softly to him, white hair falling freely from his shoulders. He understood some of Kenshin's weariness, yet he had thankfully not heard the other guests.*

Best of wishes, Himura-san.
She seems like a truly good woman.

*he paused, and then smiled again. He had not wanted to insult anyone by not having sake to celebrate the newlyweds, but one cup was enough to make him a bit light-headed*

It has been a good day, my friend.

She is de gozaru. This unworthy one does not deserve her, but she insists otherwise de gozaru.

[He gave a small sigh.] It has been a good day de gozaru...
