In which I debated my cousins over gay marriage

Read this or don't. A few days ago, I woke up to find my cousin must have launched into a tirade over gay marriage, so he, my other cousin, and I got into a kind of argument over the matter into two separate Facebook threads. Just posting this for my own future reference. I still don't understand the anti-gay marriage argument, but...meh.

so after reading that (I wanted to stop halfway because I knew how it'd continue but I was compelled by... something), I pretty much want to punch both of your cousins in the face for sheer ignorance. That makes me sad. :(

I get into the same argument with my mom every now and then (especially with Prop 8 rolled around over here in California), and I've summed up the argument against gay marriage into one neat sentence. Ready? Here it is:

"I just don't like it."

I think that pretty much covers it! :)

I really hope people will finally begin to see the light. The sheer number of "Marriage is a Christian thing!" arguments makes my brain curl. Yes, it curls. Some girl in my biology class last term said that when we had a LGBT panel talking about being gay/bi/trans, and half the class at least moved to correct her all like, "no dear... actually it started way before Christianity and your faith, while popular, does not hold a monopoly on binding two people together kthxbye."

(I'm catching up on my flist, as if you couldn't tell)
