I don't know if it's a positive thing or not that I've always been (like since I was 5) so cynical about geopolitics that I don't get depressed when things go wrong, just pleasantly suprised when things do turn out well. I'm still happily impressed that we made it out of the 20th century without civilization evaporating in atomic fire.
