Finally, it's summer. And by summer, I mean fall. The sun is out, it's warm, shorts and a tshirt are required gear. It was a long, cold, foggy winter in San Francisco this year. I think you'll be happy there, too. Portland's a great town and I've heard good things about Vancouver, WA, as well.

Being a Bay Area-to-Northwest (Portland) mover myself, I'd have to say that it's definitely something to consider. And I lived in the Bay Area my whole life! We've just spent our 3rd summer here and we've been through 2 winters. After the 1st winter, you get used to the weather. The first one is rough, though. The summers are fantastic! Definitely a better place to raise kids. The first time we went house hunting, I laughed out loud in every. single. house. Because what I have here is like $1.5 mil in the good 'ol Bay Area. And it cost less than $500K (during the UP market!).

The first time back to the Bay Area, I missed it. But now when I'm there, I wonder when I can get back "home."

Seattle is interesting. My parents and brother live up there, my sister just moved (a year ago) to SF from there. There are many good points, most of which you've already laid out in this post. I love going in the summer, the weather is perfect, everyone's happy, all is good. BUT...by winter it's just not the same city, in my experience at least. People aren't as cheery or helpful, there's less going on, it's cold and icky out. The plus side is that makes for AWESOME coffee shop weather; you just can't beat a rainy Seattle day inside a warm coffee shop people watching and just enjoying life ( ... )
