Claire was far from being in a social mood right now. She knew there were prospective students around and that there were social events planned for them, but there was no way she could leave her room without falling apart

Sam was on his way to the common room, pretty pleased with how the day had been going so far, and he decided to knock on Claire's door and invite her.

Claire was not expecting visitors. In fact, she wasn't sure she wanted any. Still, she thought it would be rude not to answer the door.

"Oh, hey Sam," Claire greeted when she opened the door. It probably wasn't hard to figure out she had been crying.

"Claire, what's wrong?" Sam asked, instantly concerned.

"It's Mack," Claire replied. She could already feel the tears starting to form again.
