[ the communicator fizzles to life and suddenly we hear a thunderclap and an accompanying scream that doesn't sound like it could have come from any grown man. unfortunately, that's exactly who it came from--a man whose voice rises again, this time in a shaky tone that is attempting to straighten out. ]
