[open] [AU] It's babby time.

Seems like the rest of those months flew by in the blink of an eye, doesn't it? Atem can't really say the same. The rest of the time has been somewhat a little hellish for her. Maybe that means the same of you since you're the one looking after her. Good news, though, she's at the nine month mark now! The baby isn't set to arrive, within the doctor ( Read more... )

Kaiba had committed himself to the mansion for the last month of Atem's pregnancy, but he certainly hadn't given up the usual hours. He could be found at all hours holed up in his home office, taking calls in foreign languages or typing away. The few moments he wasn't there, he would be taking a shift in caring for Atem, or dealing with a few loose ends with the contractors ( ... )

"It's not natural." A lot of the things she was having to subject herself weren't either, not in her definition. The medicine she was going to have to take, the epidural or whatever it was called, didn't seem to sit right with her either. She just wasn't sure about any of it. "We shouldn't be rushing the baby just because..."

An exasperated sigh. Just because she was deeply uncomfortable and sincerely upset at times by this point. She shook her head, finishing up the buttons of the shirt she'd chosen.

Her eyes drifted towards the drink he'd brought in for her. She wasn't feeling like much right now. Yet she picked it up between her hands, cupping it lightly. "Thanks." Kaiba had put himself through hell and back these nine months and even when she was being obscenely angry with him, she could still understand the strain. It never hurt to positively acknowledge his efforts.

"If you're uncomfortable, I don't see why not," Kaiba said. "It would be in the hospital and taken care of by exactly the same people as would be there in a labor that wasn't induced. It's exactly the same, not a c-section."

He tipped his own mug up sharply, downing about half of its contents. "Mokuba called a few hours ago," he added casually. "He wants to come home to visit once the baby is born." He shook his head fondly. "I said he could come home as soon as he has a semester break, just like everyone else. He's not in college to just blow off his classes whenever he feels like it."

"The baby comes first, not me." Although she wasn't quite sure how that equation worked out since they were slightly one in the same right now. At least she was the figure that housed it. Either way, she didn't want to force the baby to come just so she could feel better.

Listening about Mokuba was something she much preferred to do, looking down still at the tea Kaiba had brought for her with a tired smile. "I'm sure missing one or two days wouldn't be a big deal. And it would probably mean a lot to him." She certainly didn't have a problem with it. Mokuba was not in her jurisdiction, however. That didn't mean she couldn't try and persuade Seto.

And Yuugi chose that moment to pop into the room. "Induced labor?" Yuugi tilted his head just slightly. "Is that what Kaiba-kun has been talking about doing?"

Atem continued buttoning up the shirt she was putting on. "I've heard the idea from a few people." She wouldn't say if Kaiba was or wasn't one of them. In the end it didn't really matter.

"It's not something I want to do."

"Well, how have you been feeling?" Yuugi walked up to her and placed a hand to her forehead. "Sleeping better at all?"

She just watched him carefully, unmoving as he touched her. Eventually she just shook her head.

"Not at all." It was very annoying, but there wasn't much she could really do about it. She'd had to have tried everything by now.
