This tournament was a celebration of twenty-five years of the same Duel King: Atem. It had been a long and arduous road for him all these years but like all the other times, he was up to the challenge. You had come with him because at this point now it was ridiculous to deny that most of the time you two were inseparable. It might have been a good ( Read more... )

Kaiba Corporation alone was good enough to drag Kaiba Seto through a rollercoaster twenty five years. Stocks had gone up and down, business had boomed and faded and boomed again, but for now things had been pretty good. After his older brother's first heart attack scare, Mokuba had insisted on taking his full share of the work. Now the younger Kaiba was the public face of KaibaCorp, an arrangement that had won them more support for Seto's Duel Academies. Seto was left with more time for design, as well as the more number crunching aspect of the business...and for Atem ( ... )

"I'll make sure he gets the message, Mr. Kaiba. But your plane is leaving." The bodyguard really didn't want to deal with anything more than what was necessary. And Pegasus had given him strict instructions to get those two out of there as quick as possible. So with that closing line and the roaring to life of the jet, he stepped away and left.

Atem hadn't been feeling up to arguing with anyone after that. Having his title taken away like that and then arguing about it in front of all those people would have portrayed him as a child. He knew that's why Pegasus had done it. His hate for that man never had a chance to diminish, and it never would.

He sat up slightly in his seat to get a look at the brunet. The man was furious at Pegasus as well, that much could be seen. He wasn't sure how to feel that Kaiba was fighting on his behalf, where he - ...either could not or would not, right now he wasn't sure. "Seto." He called just enough over the engine.

"The plane can wait!" The brunet snapped. He fully intended to go after Pegasus on foot if he had to. The call stopped him in his tracks. He looked back toward the plane, the rising wind pulling at his hair and coat, and finally sighed. One last glare was leveled at Pegasus' motorcade before the CEO turned back and climbed onto the jet.

"Bastard," he snarled. "He set you up and made me look like a has-been."

Atem's gaze was drawn out the window rather than on the brunet once he entered the cabin. Maybe it was that he had to face his rival and lover of 25 years now with the truth that - ...what did he really have anymore? Sure he hadn't been bested at the game but the only reason he was really known in this life time had been ripped away from him.

And there had been no fight to stop it. There had been no plans of "what-if", as there should have been.

"Pegasus has and always will be a snake." He was still angry, that much couldn't be helped. He leaned against the window. "I should have known better." He walked right into this.
