And now for something a little different. Number 8 combined with 5..whitewizardboyNovember 15 2011, 04:08:33 UTC
He had tried, he had honestly tried. But it seemed that even his best failed to impress.
He pulled his knees up to his chest, just intent on watching the television for a little while, trying not to let the breakup hurt him too much. He had really liked her, and he thought that they were going somewhere, but that wasn't the case apparently, as he found out later.
Still, a movie night with his roommate would probably help ease his broken heart. Just a night with friends was all he really needed, right?
Unless your name was Yuugi, or possibly aibou, Atem didn't really have the social skills to help or comfort. As it was he felt incredibly awkward. Truth be told, he didn't think that girl was very good for Ryou when they'd first been introduced, but now wasn't really the time for I-told-you-sos.
No, now was the time for him to sit on the couch, watching a movie he probably wasn't following too well, and feeling awkward about the whole mess. He was sure there was supposed to be something he should be saying, but for the life of him, nothing came to mind that he felt would sound like it really mattered. So he settled for letting the other stew in his own thoughts, or perhaps he was watching the movie mindlessly. That would help, right?
Truth be told, he was glad that Atem was being quiet and not saying much. If he had been with one of the others, they would probably be talking up a storm and more likely than not making him feel worse. Yuugi and Anzu would want him talk about it when he didn't really want to talk about it, and Jounouchi and Honda would probably say something insensitive, bringing his mood down further.
Just, right now, quiet understanding was probably what he needed.
"...You want popcorn or something? I can go make some in the kitchen..."
He looked up when the other spoke, almost surprised at it. He had been certain they were going to sit in silence for most of the evening, which would have been fine in this case. He really didn't mind so much.
"Oh- sure. Sounds good." Maybe if Ryou had an excuse to eat he'd feel better too. Who even knew. Atem had never had a break up before, he wasn't sure how anyone was supposed to feel besides sad.
The lightning flashed, highlighting the soaking wet brunet slinking into the mansion. Damn the weather. Damn the electric grid. Damn the generators only being able to power the most essential of projects. He would have to fix that later, when he wasn't completely soaked through.
It was too late for anyone in the house to be awake, he thought. So Kaiba slumped all the way up to the master bedroom in his wet clothes, not taking any particular care to avoid making noise. Not that it would be particularly easy if he tried. He was shivering by the time he made it into the bathroom.
Atem was fond of the rain. There was never very much of it in Egypt, and stranger still, during his adventures with Yuugi he only could recount one or two times that it had rained. It seemed like a rare commodity, even in places that it shouldn't have been. Sometimes the thunder was entirely too loud for him to take, and the seemingly dangerous light show that accompanied it was thrilling
( ... )
He hadn't expected anyone else to be up, much less the man he had just invited to stay. Atem was cautious socially. The CEO had expected to be working on him for weeks. The knock on the door ended up startling him, his wet jacket getting dumped on the floor as Kaiba moved to try and defend himself. That obnoxious hair and those bright eyes just visible in the crack of the door got him to relax slightly.
"...The power went out at the Tower," he said quickly as an explanation.
The door was pushed open just a smidgen more before he propped himself against the doorway. He couldn't help but look over the other, trying to assess his situation and how long it was going to be before it was truly dealt with.
In the mean time, his head tilted slightly. "There's no way to fix it?" Surely that sounded like something simple enough. Then again, if Kaiba was here, he already knew the answer was no. Hm.
Number FOUR. ...And six? (It feels like both :U )notsolivingNovember 17 2011, 06:51:29 UTC
Whether you noticed or not Atem, someone seems to have been following you, and she's in too good a mood than can be trusted.
Maybe she just ate. Who knows. But the point is, wherever you are at the moment, Anzu appears to be hiding just around the next corner behind you to wait for the best moment to strike...
