OH MY GOSH, FLAIL, FEELINGS, hands figuratively clasped at my heart! (And for a moment -- specifically a "You know, Niles," C.C. says sleepily, "sometimes you're not such a bad guy." / "Ditto," he says, and she actually laughs moment -- this came dangerously close to being literal hand clasping. It's a good thing my computer screen is not a sentient being who can judge me.)

This is just so perfectly in-character with WONDERFUL voices for all three characters involved, and it's funny and so bleakly sad at the same time. This is one of those episodes that has always made me kinda sad, because it's just such a low point for C.C., how do you not feel miserable for her? And I just love everything in here -- Niles wondering what exactly happened in the car ride home; Maxwell being that perfect mix of totally pleasant and totally avoid-y; the too-big pajamas; C.C.'s whole speech, oh GOD; and Niles being so effortlessly, quietly good at taking care of people, and getting this little moment of rare acknowledgment & appreciation for it from ( ... )

Agh, you are the best, you know that? I'm so, so thrilled you enjoyed it. By the time I'd finished writing, I wasn't so sure about it, so it's great to hear that I got the characterizations and the tone right.

That little moment you quoted is my favourite bit, too.(Spoiler alert: it came from a moment from the show where C.C. calls Niles a pathetic excuse for a man, and he says "Ditto!", but let's call it an homage rather than blatant plagiarism, shall we?)

I am totally in favor of Niles/C.C. fanfic taking over the world! And, aw, you are really too kind. ♥
