i like thetext descriptions of the pictures. i'm new to livejournal; should i be doing that, too? are the text descriptiions for blind readers of your post, or for easy searchability, or for people with internet connections that don't load pictures by default? or another reason?
Oh hi Abby! The text descriptions is something I've seen done a lot on Dreamwidth, which is an alternate journaling community that crossposts to my LiveJournal account. It's not required but it is a good thing to do for accessibility reasons. People who have visual disabilities or just have trouble processing visual information, or anyone else who might need a description, can use it. I don't always have the energy to do it (especially on tumblr, where I just post a lot of photos without descriptions) but I try to do it when I can.
I often watch TV with subtitles even though I don't have hearing problems, so I can understand the appeal of text even for people without screen-readers.
