I know that PBS has had to cut out some bits that aired in the UK to make Downton fit in the timeslot, but I'm not 100% sure which bits have beeb cut.

And yes. Farm dude is married to farm lady. Farm dude and his wife were actually in series 1. He was the farmer who was sick with dropsy when Isobel pushed Dr. Clarkson to try to new treatment and saved his life.

Carson sucks sometimes for insisting that women can't serve dinner and trying to keep Sybil from learning things, but he loves Mary so much that I can't hate him. Because I LOVE MARY TOO.THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL. Like, idk. I kind of find him amusing in his "stuck in the past" ways? And he's definitely there to represent the conservative old-school train of thought. But IDEC BECAUSE HE LOVES MARY AND I LOVE MARY AND EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE MARY

Oh, I didn't even realize they were the couple from that episode! I only watched S1 once. It's weird to me though because he was so casual about kissing her and didn't seem too worried about his wife and then she was like ANGRYFACE. And Edith didn't seem to understand why they fired her? I just... don't get what's going on there.

I forgot my favorite Carson bit in the episode--when Mrs. Hughes tells him about listening at the grate and he's like "if I were a gentleman I wouldn't want to know," and she's like "but you're not," and he says "fortunately." Hee hee.

The only reason I want Carlisle to stay on the show is so we can find out what's up with him and Lavinia. I think he's so wrong for Mary. But you're right, she doesn't really have a lot of choices, and there's always the threat of the scandal coming back to hurt her prospects if she doesn't get married soon.

Bleak House is actually where I first discovered Anna Maxwell-Martin and now I'm appalled that she is not in ALL OF THE THINGS because she was brilliant

I don't think Edith knew that his wife had seen them kissing, so she was just disappointed that she didn't have a purpose once again.

The Olympics are great until they decide to hold soccer qualifying events literally 200 yards away. [sighs] (The rest will be ace except for everyone here complaining.)
