getting pronoia

only read to p6 (plus all front and back matter) while returning from purchase on train.

was feeling totally unable to do anything at all (reading newspaper, finishing meal, thinking about anything i need to think about) and decided i would nevertheless lookup timetable, buy ticket and catch train to and from city with 2 hour ticket to purchase last copy at Melbourne Central Borders although reserved by me for a week (there are copies at other Borders but one has to phone the specific shop to verify and reserve).

this was a first since i almost always waste more time by car and when go by tram i feel i should hang around before going back. also hardly ever reserve books at bookshops or lookup timetables and don't have met tickets.

am sufficiently disoriented and confused by the world generally that i got lost between Melbourne Central Station and Borders Booksop at Melbourne Central after using a convenient touchscreen which showed me where i was and where Borders was (level 1)

then I found myself outside Melbourne Central although it was not the public street and entirely surrounded by shops with roof above as a result of taking a nearby escalator headed up. thought i was still inside.

asked directions and was pointed to nearby lifts. the lift only went down. returned to same guy who explained that there were two lifts. there was indeed a second lift, which only went up.

reflected that if i had not come by train i would never have learned that there really is a place in Melbourne with one lift that only goes down and another adjacent to it that only goes up.

the lift that only goes up would not go up when i pressed the button for level 1.

returned to same guy stressing that i now suspected i was not in Melbourne Central and he he confirmed this and explained that i could get there by turning left and walking straight through (or something like that).

this involved walking straight through the central aisle of cafe with cafe tables on either side, which deterred me for a moment but did work so i found myself recognizably inside Melbourne Central, complete with historic national heritage shot tower preserved by being entirely covered by modernist glass building in surreal illustration of je ne sais quoi.

then i got to Borders just as doors were being shut and was allowed in only because i had reserved the book.

reflected on how universe is conspiring with me to ensure both that i get the book and do not get distracted by excessive wandering around bookshops.

got straight back to station by obvious route and felt relaxed enough by having actually done something the same day as decided to do it plus whatever the effects of reading Pronoia on train - to have early night and get 7.5 hours uninterrupted sleep ("normally" about 4-5)

woke up relaxed enough to post utter trivia on this journal.
