Sometimes Jac likes to write about her opinions post-midnight instead of just ranting to people/twitter about them. This is the first such blog, more to follow.
I've actually had very similar feelings about this and because of this, I don't tend to repost things like that. however, when I saw the cartoon one going around, I actually heard or was a part of several serious conversations about child abuse and taking action as well as arguments started because of the cartoon thing, so in a way it did work. also your submission box is impossible to read so i'm gonna stop typing now before i accumulate any more grammatical errors.
apologies re: my comment box, shall fix! i tend to overlook it when i'm fixing up my layouts.
I'm glad you saw the cartoon/child abuse thing work! When it actually happened, I made a rant about it on facebook, about how it doesn't work, and actually got the (passive-aggressive, posted on their own page not as a comment to me) reply "I didn't even know it was in support of anything" and then got told to stop criticising people for getting behind an idea. Oh well.
haha I also learned the term "slacktivism" which applies to the majority of those things - it's wanting to do something by doing nothing so you post things like "VODKA!" for cancer awareness. I'm a member of a group called "slacktivists against slacktivism" on facebook, I liked the irony. I HATE posts that are obviously written with made up statistics or say "99% of you won't repost this." If I see that, I purposely REFUSE to repost on principle. I feel it's important to actually provide factual information if you're trying to raise awareness. Link an article with credible sources and info, not "VODKA!" haha.
hah! nice group. I probably reposted one~ thing when my grandad was sick. I totally agree, in order to actually raise ANY kind of awareness (especially these days when everyone is so lazy) posting a paragraph something like "##% of women are affected by breast cancer, learn more here (link) and please donate to help find a cure." is going to be more effective. You're actually telling people what the deal is and where they can go to find more info and straight up giving them the option to help the cause.
Yes, you can. I currently have enough to last my entire degree unless I develop a drinking problem.
