Grr. My tutor is just being deliberately annoying now. How unhelpful is it to put simply 'Davidson 1985' on a reading list?! Particularly when it's the first essay on a new topic. Nowhere in her bibliography or the faculty one does it give anything by anyone called Davidson. I refuse to wade through all the Davidsons in the OLIS catalogue trying to ( Read more... )

You can search by date in OLIS as well, you know. Although I know that's very little help, it does appear to reduce the number of Davidsons you need to search through to 53...

I suspect it's

DAVIDSON JF
SOPHOCLEAN DRAMATURGY AND THE 'AJAX' BURIAL DEBATES + NEW INTERPRETATION OF STRUCTURE OF SOPHOCLES TRAGEDY
RAMUS-CRITICAL STUDIES IN GREEK AND ROMAN LITERATURE 14 (1): 16-29 1985

(Though I also suspect it's too late to be useful).

I got it off the ISI Arts/Humanities citation index, which (he says shifting into geeky academic mode) is very useful for that sort of thing - if you put (e.g.) TS=AJAX AND AU=DAVIDSON AND PY=1985 it gives it straight to you. You can get to it from the Classics entry on http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/oxlip/ .

THANK YOU! Why do none of my own tutors ever tell me this stuff?!

You're right it's a bit late for this essay (i.e. my deadline is in five minutes, not that that's stopping me wasting time on LiveJournal) but I'll probably need it next week as well. I'll buy you a drink if you make it to the bar crawl tonight...
