I got a 'jib arm' (or what is sometimes known as a camera boom) a couple years ago and haven't actually used it for a real project yet. Well I have a project in mind now, but I needed a more sturdy tripod for it than then cheap plastic ones I could afford, so I went on over to the news station.
It's a total of six feet long I think, with a cord connecting the pivot point to the camera plate so that as I see-saw it up and down, the camera remains pointing directly ahead (or whatever other direction I want to point it, by moving the head of the actual tripod)
k, if you understood that last paragraph then you are nerdy enough to view the pics.
I spent a while setting it up (in the newsroom no less), then I attached a box to the back of it for counter balance, contents include a small lead weight, two pens, and a beta cassette (no case) which seemed to balance out the weight perfectly.
Oh, and after sitting disassembled in my trunk for a long time, the cord was stretched and loose, rendering the tilt head useless, so I cut off the little orange thingies, pulled the cord tight as I could around the spring and put new little-er tie things on it. Works fine now. yayness.
And since if you've read or viewed this far, you are a true photography nerd, here's a shot I took a couple years ago in the basement of a large building.
