Sorry I found your journal as I was looking for folk from Ireland and generally people who might share a few interests.
I can so relate to this. I am German but live in Louth, and the cultural differences still amaze me, even after almost four years of living here.
The bus thing is true though. Because the public transport is almost non-existent I had to buy a car to get to work. The bus (rather busses) would take me about an hour to get to work, and with the car it takes about ten minutes now.
The bus drivers are as relaxed here as they are over where you live though, I can sure verify that. Granted the only time I take the bus is to the airport, but still, you get to experience what it's like. And bus drivers back home would never get away with all this .. ;)
