He probably shouldn't do it.

He was only a step away from the door to her chamber (if it could properly be called a chamber), hand poised and ready to knock. No, he told himself, he really shouldn't do it. He doubted she wanted to see him at the moment, and he had no idea what to say or why he was even there, but he couldn't quite bring himself to ( Read more... )

His voice knocked her out of her thoughts.

Natalia blinked as she looked towards her door, already debating whether or not she should answer it. Her hands made its way to her head as she shook her head slightly. This day was not turning out as she had expected. She did not expect her fiancée to have a date with another woman. And she most certainly did not expect for her affections to change from Luke to Guy.

Her mind told her to not open the door, as it would be too much embarrassment for her. But it would be rude to just come up with a lie and tell him to go away. Coming to a decision, she stood and tentatively walked to the door and opened it, taking a step back to allow Guy to come in if he wanted to. "...Yes, Guy?”

He took another half-step back without meaning to, not quite expecting her to be there so suddenly; he caught himself before he could back away any further.

"Oh, Natalia," he said quickly, smiling and running a hand awkwardly through his hair. "Can I...come in?--or we could go somewhere else if you want! I...think we should talk." He glanced away, smiling bitterly at the dilapidated wall.

Natalia bit her lip lightly as she looked away, contemplating about her answer. A slight sigh escaped her as she looked back to Guy and nodded slightly. “Perhaps we should… pick a different location. I believe I have an idea about what it is you want to talk about.” Her eyes averted his as Natalia cautiously glanced around the room, afraid that she might say something without thinking.

He nodded, still staring awkwardly at the wall. There was a moment of silence, and then he agreed, "Yeah. It might be kind of hard to find somewhere private, though, considering how crowded it is. Do you have anywhere in mind...?" He folded his arms, fidgeting only so slightly. "I suppose we can always go up to the outskirts of the town," he added. "The air quality is better there, at least."

He frowned, following her gaze up into the sky and brushing hair from his face frustratedly. "I'm not sure," he admitted, sighing. "I...don't know."

Had someone told him last week that today he would be feeling this things (she was so beautiful, why had he not noticed before?), he would have laughed it off--but here he was, admiring the princess of Kimlasca's bright eyes, the slope of her neck, the way she held her head.

"We have to wait," he said finally, though it was the last thing he wanted to do. "We...can't be rash here, when it could cost us so much." Though perfectly logical, those words were painful to speak. Painful.

What was going on?
