"Grace used to say Jack and Bobby were like two sides of a coin. Without Bobby, Jack might never have learned compassion. Without Jack, Bobby might never have gained strength."
Jack McCallister is from the TV show Jack & Bobby which aired in 2004-2005 about two brothers, Jack and Bobby, one of whom grows up to be the President of the United States. That brother? Not Jack.
"Normal is what you have to be if you don't want to spend every day of high school getting beat up."
Jack is
notlikejack's older brother. Same universe! He's transferring from Truman High School in Hart, Missouri circa 2005. He was the star of the track team until he blew his knee out after getting mugged one night, was part of the popular crowd and dated the head cheerleader, Missy (and outsider stoner chick Katie later. Then Missy again. And then there's Courtney. It's complicated).
He has absolutely no idea what he's in for coming to Fandom High.
"It's not like I don't try, you know? It takes every bit of my energy to think ten steps ahead for him. Prevent him from wearing a spacesuit to school or getting tied to a trash can. And even then when I'm exhausted with him, it's still not enough."
Jack's here to keep an eye on Bobby so that their overbearing mom Grace would let him go. He's not keen on leaving his friends behind or having to start over at a new school, but Bobby's persuasive sometimes and the temptation to get Bobby away from their mom's influence and pressure was too great to say no. He's not sure if that was the right idea now that they're actually going.
"Other kids talked about shows they watched. I could talk about the plight of the Sandinistas."
He's a jock, but he's pretty smart and has always had a ton of responsibility, so he tends to be on the serious side. Jack make friends fine when he's not being emo (it happens sometimes), and though he's not a big talker, when he knows what he wants, he doesn't hesitate to go after it. He's very much the guy next door and a regular kid who's going to have his work cut out for him figuring out how to fit in with Fandom's weird social hierarchy.
