Was Claudia nervous about going to the Eureka of her universe? Yes. Absolutely. She was there to meet up with the guy with whom some version of her in the future apparently had the world's biggest spaz kid, who she totally had kissed the day before, shortly before being dumped by the guy she had been kissing all week.
Man, getting back to school next week was going to be such a relief.
Anyway, it had taken most of the morning being filled up with signing various papers and pretending not to be super intimidated by all the DOD dudes wandering around looking stern at her, but they were now finally driving her into Eureka proper, where Fargo had said he'd meet up with her to give her the grand tour.
Of the top secret government research facility that made things like little robotic spiders that could only be killed by artifact fueled lightsabers.
Really, this was her life.
She hopped out of the black SUV -- of course it was a black SUV -- to a group of four people, including Fargo, a guy who looked sort of creepily familiar, and --
"HOLY SHNIKIES!"
Jack freaking Carter. Of the not-so-secretly-old variety.
"Well," said Jack. "This can't be good."
"Tourettes again?" guessed Fargo.
"Surrrrrrrre."
"Claudia Donovan," Fargo said, proving once again that he could roll even with Fandom-plus-Warehouse-plus-Eureka levels of weird. "Meet everyone. This is --"
"Jo?" Claudia guessed, giving the woman in the suit what she hoped was a nicely subtle once over. "Yeah, Doug here said you were a major babe that kicked major ass."
"Did he now." Jo didn't sound thrilled. Damn, Claudia had totally botched that roll for charisma.
"Donovan?" she tried again, pointing to Zane, aka the creepily familiar guy (where had she seen him before?). "Donovan," she pointed to herself. "Coincidence?"
"No such thing, sweetheart."
Ooo, creepy guy was slightly skeezy, too. Noted.
"And you must be the infamous Sheriff Carter," Claudia said to Jack, biting her lip as she tried to sound nice and casual.
"What gave you that idea?" Jack asked, sounding resigned.
"Just a general . . . sheriffy vibe. . . ."
This was going to be the weirdest weekend ever.
