property managers just happen to be the same company that built this building

They wouldn't happen to be Fletcher Challenge by any chance?

They built the building I'm in now, and a friend of mine who is an architect/surveyor tells me that the lift shaft is 3cm out of vertical (in a 10 floor building). He advised a potential buyer not to go touch it with a barge pole...

He told me that AFTER the company I work for moved into the building, not that anything I could say would have affected the decision...

no, they're called GRD. Scarily incompetent.. although I think it's just teething problems as they learn to manage residential property. I'm hoping they're moderately competent at building.

I guess if my house is still there when we get back, then that answers my question. The radio was saying that winds were picking up as we left, and the entire city was gridlocked due to tree branches breaking off etc. CRAZY! :)
