Oh, you broke my heart. In the most beautiful way.

I don't think I've ever read a story with a character death that was done in such a unique way. It's just lovely.

thank you <33

I know character death fics aren't your cup of tea, but thank you for reading & commenting.

As I've said above, I think I saw this as an inherently happy fic (until the end) because to me, it was more about Sergio remembering the how & why of loving Fernando (and his name). It was less about the character death, and more about the progression of their relationship & about Sergio's simple love of that name, idk does that make sense?

That makes total sense! And I think it's why this one didn't leave me with that shit feeling that I usually get from fics where someone dies. Though the ending is sad the story itself isn't. I'm really glad I decided to read it.

This made me so happy! The idea is great and the way you wrote their interactions is lovely as always.
I'm possibly heartless, but Fernando's death didn't make me cry. Sergio obviously has a relationship filled with love and happiness to look back!
The Torres part was my favorite:

“No, but I like it when you say it best.”

Just perfect!

No, it isn't heartless. I know exactly what you mean. As I've said in previous comments, the ending is sad, but the fic itself wasn't sad & you're right, Sergio had some lovelymoments w/ Fernando to look back on. To me it was a fic about the development if their relationship & about Sergio's love of his name & the person attached to that name. Does that make sense?

Nothing I can say could ever put into words how good this was and how touched I was and I don't wanna ruin it by ranting and trying to get my feelings about it across ... I just wanted you to know how amazing I thought this was (made me cry) .. I love your writing

I agree with all the others, this is a great story. I love the happy moments and good memories, so I think you're right - it's not a sad fic. I didn't expect this kind of ending, so I was a little shocked and saddened upon reading, but now I think it really complements the rest and prevents it from being too sappy. It's exactly as Sergio muses in your final paragraph: bittersweet.

The story is also beautifully written, like all of your works ♥

On a different note, I loved that you centered the story around Fernando's name! It's a great idea, names are so important and can carry such meaning as you demonstrated very well...
Plus, I am fascinated by naming traditions all over the world, and I find the Spanish/Latin American way particularly interesting. The name Sanz has fascinated me for years (before I even knew Fernando existed) because it sounds so un-Spanish to me but seems to be quite common.

Anyway, thanks a lot for a great fic!

thank you! And yes, I think knowing the ending allowed me to be a little sappy w/the other parts, allowed Sergio to be happy, to remember all the wonderful moments w/Fernando, remember the reasons he loved him & his name.

The idea for the name actually came about because of that line I quoted from Say Her Name, I'm not quite sure how & like I said in the a/n it just sprang to my mind almost fully formed. I had to ask about the naming traditions of Spain, which I found sort of confusing, but now I find kind of interesting, makes me kind of wish I could have both my father's & mother's names.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment, as always!
