What sort of greeting is that? When did parents stop telling their kids to say, "Trick or Treat"?

Hey you! Sullen kids! Don't just stand there with your bag open! Say the magic phrase!

We didn't have any problems with that, for the few we were home for, we had loud, clear "Trick or Treat!" and wide gaping bags waiting for handouts.

I would find the absense more than a little strange and have to prompt them myself... threaten them with new toothbrushes or something.
