The first thing they tell you about wounded animals is that they are unpredictable. As you say, hard, but necessary. You're making your life into what you need it to be, and as difficult as it is to remove the pieces that aren't helpful, because of the memories and habits that tell us we need to keep them, it is ultimately what you need to do.

And you have a dog, which makes everything better. Best of luck to you (from someone with family issues of his own).
