[ She wasn't home anymore.

She was in a home; though not for long. Meiling's first response after her initial bit of flailing was to step outside. Pinching herself didn't work. Slapping herself didn't work. Fresh air would help! Meiling had been trying to focus on how she got here, when she didn't recall crossing any borders--

The border. Of ( Read more... )

[Anyone who walks past, you say. Meditating on the lawn, you say.

Poked by a slightly wary passerby, you get.]

[ Meiling opens her eyes, leans back, and stares blearily up at the young man. ] --hm?

Hey. Just checking. 's not exactly... the safest place to be taking a nap. [And, as if this makes total sense, Ren offers a hand. Because now she'll get up and medi-nap inside, right? Right.]

I wasn't napping! I was meditating. [ Said defensively. Force of habit, as she's rather tired of always being accused of that.

Meiling eyes that hand warily for a moment, but decides to take it all the same, and use it to rise to her feet. ]

Okay, okay... [Still, she's up and attentive, which is a victory. Attentiveness = A+ skill in Mayfield, after all.] Still. Just got rid of an infestation of killer statues that snuck up on people and sent them to Westport. Gotta keep alert. Meditate inside, maybe.

[ She takes her hand back and dusts off the back of her dress. Then she blinks over at him, owlishly. ] ...how are statues dangerous? [ Man, if she had some killer statues, protecting the perimeter would be so much easier. ]

[Ren has to hesitate.] I'm... not really sure. They were angel statues that... followed people and... attacked them somehow. Someone else could probably explain better.

But angels are supposed to be peaceful, aren't they? [ Scratching her head now. ] It doesn't matter, if they tried anything, I'd just have to smash them! [ Meiling squares her shoulders, hands on her hips. ]

Thank you for the warning, though I don't think I'll be going back inside just yet. [ She tosses her head back, indicating the house. ] Too much buzzing in there. I couldn't focus.

Good!

[He would have walked away, but--] Buzzing?

Yeah, all the electronics. [ She's not exactly used to them -- they were usually in separate rooms, far, far away from her. ]

[O-oh fellow technophobes unite! That gets a sympathetic nod.] Phones here are the worst. I mean, good to keep on top of all the crazy shit that goes on, but you can never really get away from 'em.

You sound like you know a lot about this place... [ Tilting her head at him. ] Are the phones really that annoying?

I know a bit. Been here a while, sorta.

You get used to the phones. Just takes more getting used to than some of the other things that buzz. Promise.

I see. [ She frowns. She doesn't want to get used to this place, she needs to get home. ] Can you tell me, how did I get here? I don't remember crossing over to this world at all.

[...oh. Now things were getting to the parts he didn't fully understand.] Ah... as far as I know, it... just sorta happens. You wake up here one day, just like... that.

How-- [ No, he just sounded like he didn't know. Asking again wouldn't do any good. Glancing to the ground, she puts a hand to the side of her head. This will be a headache to remember. ] If the Mistress finds me missing, she's going to be so mad...
