I had to go to work today. People are killing each other left and right and it was like nothing was different at school. [ Meiling's characteristic carefree nature is absent from her tone. The past few days have been hard on her, even in isolation, as she cannot escape the emotional aftermath of all this senseless bloodshed

There are people who care, but you must remember that most of the people seen are not what you could consider as normal. They will see nothing wrong with this, and may not even be aware it's happening. As for those who have embraced this barbaric display, they are not the kind who would care beyond themselves or those they feel are important to them.

They are blind, or more... unsure no doubt. I fear there are those who are simply jaded in this place as well.

The town prizes routine above all else. Even if people are dying, the sanitized, mechanical rituals have to continue.

There's nothing routine about this. [ So that doesn't make sense to her. ]

Something new and usually horrifying happens about once a month or so. The true torture of this place is that it deadens your reactions to these kind of things.

I know humans can be cruel, even to each other, but I don't think I'll ever get used to things like this. I don't want to.

Do you know what would happen to those that show they care? How worried they are?

They make it more obvious that they're easy targets. Several expressed their care over the phone lines when this first started. I wonder how many are still alive now?

Not everyone who wants to avoid fighting is an automatic "easy target".
