They make it more obvious that they're easy targets. Several expressed their care over the phone lines when this first started. I wonder how many are still alive now?

Not everyone who wants to avoid fighting is an automatic "easy target".

Then those are the lucky ones. All I'm saying is that obviously, there are people that care. It's just better for them not to call attention to themselves by showing off how much they do.

Watch out for their own killer and live. At this point, nothing's going to stop everything from escalating. You'd be lucky enough to keep those you know safe, forget the rest of the town.

I... don't have that problem anymore. [ She should be excited about that, but she's not, because she figured out that the letters with her abilities and her body came at the same time as the notice of a change of targets. The first time? Could have been coincidence. The second and third, back-to-back? No, the only way was because people were dying. ]

What? Wasn't all that taken away ever since this mess started?

Everything was missing since I got here, but when I came home after the first letter, I had my body returned instead of my hat. It was kind of weird.

Heh, from the introduction letter? That's unfair.

No. [ There's a beat. ] The one ...after. It told me I had a new target. [ She hurries to explain. ] But I didn't hurt anyone!

So you gain an ability back after killing someone...
