My reaction to the Lost Finale.

Ok, I wanted to wait an appropriate time before making a response to the Lost finalle because I didn't want people to think I was speaking on emotion, or to actually be speaking on emotion. First off, I want to say the writers did a great job creating the show, a show of interesting if not frustrating mysteries and characters that all of us who ( Read more... )

You already know how I feel about this, so I don't need to give you my play-by-play agreement, heh.

In all seriousness, you could watch season 1, and the purgatory plot and more or less get their meaning... Everything in the middle...was nothing but filler. Mysteries with no answers.

I've seen plenty of comments from people saying that they can just watch Season 1 up to a few minutes before the end of "Exodus," then cut to Jack's death realization at the end of Season 6 -- it's the only way to make the show have a whole, complete plotline with everything tied up neatly. Depressing.

It's really disappointing but the fact they've stated they were going to do that ending from season 1, the whole island plot for 4-5 years was nothing but means to their purgatory ending. The end really really shows that how much the island ending is rushed and neglected, they didn't really care about it because it wasn't their point. Everything else was just to keep us watching.

an example of the mysteries they made that seemed so interesting but clearly were just events that happened or things meant to make people wonder ( ... )

I've actually seen a ton of people tie themselves into knots trying to explain all of those mysteries away, and then be like "See? It was all answered." If you have to work that hard to make up an interpreted answer to a mystery, it wasn't answered in the show!

And yeah, I agree. Most of the major plots were just there to string viewers along, to be dropped when it came time to wrap them up. Then they'd move on to a shiny new mystery plot. (Many of the plotlines should have been finished LONG before the final season--such as the pregnant women problem. Even the Dharma plotline should have been DONE after Season 5. I mean damn, they went back in time to BE Dharma members! And yet no one knows anything.)

I'm disappointed, but not really surprised. Lost has always been a little disappointing in that there are so many great ideas going on, but nothing comes of them. Also, the season finales are always either amazing or terrible. Too bad we got a terrible one for the last season.

My brother liked the finale. When I told him why I thought it sucked, his response was, "What were you, looking to get the meaning of life out of this show or something?"

Spiderman, Superman, Hulk -- all have explanations as to where their super-human powers came from. That's good writing. Create a fantastical circumstance that no human could ever comprehend first-hand, and then give an explanation as to why it happened.

At this point, if the LOST writers came out and said the island was bitten by a radioactive spider and that's where all its mysterious properties come from, I'd be content and leave it at that.
