❦ BASIC STATISTICS
Name:
Age: I estimate around 14. Anything more or less just doesn't jive right in my mind.
Distinguishing/Hidden features: his left leg from the knee down is missing, and is replaced by a metal prosthetic. And apparently he's got a scar on his chin? I don't know, I never spotted that one.
Style: Viking chic. AKA, mostly practical. Clothes are made with what can be found in the area, and colored with what can be found in the area. Simple and warm. It gets the job done, and that's that.
Greatest flaw: Stubbornness. When he insists on hunting dragons or looking for trolls or taking down THE GREEN RED GREEN DEATH but has almost no fighting skills, it's a wonder he hasn't been killed yet.
Best quality: Stubbornness. As the black sheep of Berk, his stubbornness has kept him chasing after whatever it is he wants to accomplish, no matter how much everyone else pushes him down.
❦ BACKGROUND
Character's Financial/Social Situation: Financially...well off? MOST LIKELY, given his family's status. Since his dad is the chief, he and his dad are kind of important around the village (although at first, each one was important for very different reasons.)
Educational Background: Very little in the modern sense. He is literate and is apprenticed to a 'part-time' blacksmith. It's doubtful he's had more education outside of this, but he's got a lot of natural smarts to back him up. I also like the bit of fanon that says he makes his own clothes, so I'm throwing that in too. XD
Family & Relationships: Had an estranged relationship with his father before the events of HTTYD. Stoick and Hiccup just couldn't understand each other, or how to deal with one another, so they were always strained. I think they still are, but they have a much better understanding of each other now, so while Stoick may not always understand Hiccup's logic (and vice versa), they have finally found some things in common. There's also his mother, Valhallarama, who is dead. She either died during childbirth or when Hiccup was very young, but either way it really made it harder on both Stoick and Hiccup.
Character's Spiritual/Religious Beliefs: Norse mythology. I know depressingly little about it, so I can't go into too much detail (XD) but that's...about it in a nutshell, folks.
❦ EMOTIONAL/MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
Any Mental Illnesses? pffft, are you kidding? All the Vikings had it. It's called Stubbornness Issues Syndrome.
How does Character see himself/herself? Now, after HTTYD, Hiccup's self-confidence and sense of self-worth has risen like whoa. He now feels like he actually belongs with the Vikings he grew up with and has discovered that yes, he does have some positive quality about him. He feels a lot better now knowing that, even if he messes up and causes trouble now and then, he does have a skill to offer that could improve things instead of constantly making them worse. [/DEEP SHIT HERE, YO]
How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others? Hiccup knows that he's viewed as a hero around Berk, but doesn't quite agree. After all, he doesn't really feel like one, and all he really did was the same thing everyone else did on a daily basis. He finds it a bit strange how everyone's attitude about him seemed to do a 180 overnight, but he's not complaining. He definitely prefers the hero worship over the hate.
How would others describe your Character? Crazy. Stupid. Crazy stupid. Also brave. But mainly crazy and stupid. I mean, come on, he befriended a freaking dragon and KILLED ONE THE SIZE OF A COUNTRY. You really could get much stupider or crazier if you tried.
What is the spine of your character? He's the Spiniest Viking That Ever Did Live. He's ridiculously brave, I can't even... The boy has no strength or fighting skills whatsoever, and even before the events of HTTYD, regularly seeked out dragons and attempted to kill them, even though he knew he was nowhere near as strong as anyone else! REGULARLY! And just everything he does in the movie is brave to the point of suicide. Even the little things required a lot of courage.
What is the mental process of your character? Hmm...I think Hiccup primarily thinks based on instinct and gut feeling. He knows what's dangerous and what's safe and what his chances are of dying doing something dangerous, but he'll still go out and do it simply because it feels right. That's the first step--then he'll follow out that decision logically. He'll come up with a plan and build something, or work out the best course of action based on what information he has. I guess one way to put this is that he's a slave to his impulses but makes the best of it by thinking it all out before following his impulsive decisions through.
What would most embarrass this character? ...finding out Toothless is actually a girl? I think that would sufficiently embarrass him for a while.
What does the character want out of life? Knowing he's done well and making people proud of him. And he likes not being hated for existing! That's always nice.
What would the character like to change in his/her life? Hmm...maybe change things so that he wouldn't have permanently injured Toothless so that later on he'd be able to fly without Hiccup's help. I think Hiccup feels a little guilty for causing that.
What motivates this character? Well I mentioned impulses above. XD And he says something to that effect in the film as well. I also think he does a lot in the name of friendship--when it comes down to it, he risks his life to try and improve Toothless's circumstances. Might be because Toothless was the closest thing to a friend Hiccup really had, as far as we know.
What frightens this character? I could just say death here, but that would be boring. I think failure's a good one--not failing himself, but failing others who expect him to succeed. (Or, failing those who already think he's a failure, but Hiccup wants to prove he can do things right to.)
What makes this character happy? Hmm. Definitely acceptance and approval. And friendship. Hiccup likes having friends! (Most of the time.)
❦ FAVORITE
Food: S-SOMETHING VIKING-Y? I have no idea. Maybe one of those viking stews full of weird fruits and grains and stuff. I-I guess...
Color: hmm. He seems like a seafoam green fellow to me!
Season of the year: SUMMER. However short it may be on Berk. Any change from snow and cold is a welcome change.
Movie: I don't think Hiccup's seen any...XD
TV Show: DITTO.
❦ STATEMENTS
I believe when we die, we: leave a lot of people behind.
The greatest thing one person can do for another is: Doesn't that depend on who the people are? I mean, one person might think the greatest thing is cooking them food and someone else might think it's digging a giant hole!
The ugliest thing I ever saw was: Ugly is kind of subjective on an entire island filled with battle-obsessed Vikings, you know.
The most beautiful thing I ever saw was: Berk from high up in the air on Toothless's back.
I am superstitious about: trolls. They're out there, I know it!
