I am tired of living by other peoples standards and I am taking the reigns of my life in my hands and I slapped them and going full gallop. I am living on MY terms. For longer than you've been alive, I've carried in my wallet a handwritten quotation from the dialogue of the lead character in Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People," always my favorite play: "The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone." In brief and in context, Ibsen was saying that we're at our best when we refuse to bow before others' attempts to bully us into conformity. Life inevitably involves compromises; and no one, of course, stands entirely alone (although if Bush continues with his stupid Iraq policy, he may eventually come close, lol). But to the extent that you can pursue a course that, in your heart, is right for you, and achieve genuine independence, all the better.
