Angelus was hungry. Therefore he needed someone to kill.
Well... to be fair there was never a time when he didn't need someone to kill and/or cause vast amounts of pain to. But right now the issue was hunger.
So he walked through the cold night air and kept his senses peeled for any sign of a tasty treat.
If Meg had been back home there would be no way she'd be walking around by herself at night. But Fandom had spoiled her and she felt safer here than she would in most other places. So here she was, walking by herself and humming whatever Christmas tune popped into her head.
"Well, well, well," Angelus said, stepping out of the shadows in front of her. "Just when I was thinking I could use a hummer."
Meg gave a startled jump before settling into a glare at the guy's innuendo. She felt a shiver down her back but she wasn't about to show that he made her nervous. "Ugh. Leave me alone."
"Happy to," Angelus said. "I was just thinking it'd be more in a 'after I turned you into a corpse' kind of a way."
Meg frowned and started backing away slowly. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to out run him.
"You sure teasing me is a smart idea right now?" Angelus asked, giving her no hint as to whether or not it'd be better to run or to appease him.
"It's not like I'm just going to let you hurt me." she replied, still moving away from him. She tried to think of the stuff Dean and Cassandra had taught her but she was drawing a blank. Meg figured it wouldn't do her much good anyhow.
"True," Angelus agreed. He stayed perfectly still, as though not at all concerned about any distance she was trying to put between them. "But it's not like I was going to let your permission matter all that much to me. You can see how your day has 'sucks to be you' written all over it."
Meg hesitated for a second before turning and running away as fast as she could.
Angelus let her have a second to think the running would help. Then he used vamp speed to catch up and, more to the point, catch her.
"Now now," he said, going to grab both arms and force her to face him. "We're just getting to really know each other."
"Let go of me!" she yelled as she struggled to pull herself away.
"Give it a minute," Angelus said. He gamefaced, and went to bite her neck.
Meg screamed. She squeezed her eyes shut and struggled even more as she felt Angelus bite.
Angelus gamefaced, bit down, and savored the taste of warm blood as it hit his lips.
It didn't last long. Why? Well, it's not often that a chunk of concrete goes flying through the air and bounces off a certain vampire's head but that's exactly what happened at that moment. Angelus let go, looking around for the source. "What the hell was that?"
Meg pressed a hand against her neck and shakily started to run away when she had the chance.
And there would be a grumpy looking slayer casually measuring up her target as she watched the girl get away.
"Hi. My name is Mel. I'll be your slayer for this evening. Would you prefer staking, beheading or chained to the ground and then beat on until the sun comes up?"
Angelus quirked his eyebrows upward as he took Mel in. "Slayer? Oh don't tell me someone killed off Buffy again. That news would be like chocolate all over the peanut butter goodness of me torturing you until your body matches your hair colors."
Mel shrugged. "Sorry, 'bout your luck Sparky. Buffy's doing well and fine back in Sunny-D. So unless you want to trade some more candy inspired metaphors I'd really like to get to the dustbusting phase of the evening."
Angelus kept on watching her, looking as though he was in no particular hurry about anything. "Oh well. Can't have everything. Suppose I should count my blessings that you don't have an accent. Or a fondness for shirts that cover your stomach since hey - I'm only inhuman."
"Gee. Another perverted vampire," Mel said stifling a fake yawn. "And I thought you were different. Oh well."
And then she pulled out her gun and sent a blast of energy at Angelus's head.
Angelus ducked the blast. "Ooo - fun! But I prefer a more intimate approach."
He attempted to send a roundhouse kick in the direction of Mel's legs.
Mel jumped backward letting off another couple of blasts from her gun. "Sorry. I don't get intimate on the first fight. Plus you haven't bought me dinner yet."
"Figured you were dinner, Melly." Angelus tried to get her in the face with a punch.
Mel took the hit to the face causing her to bounce back a few steps. "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to play with your food?" she asked as she charged him and did a spinning kick toward his head.
Angelus's head jerked to the side as Mel's kick connected. When he faced her again, he'd gone into gameface. "You know a better way to tenderize?"
He leapt to grab her.
"Actually I do," Mel said letting herself be grabbed.
And then she kneed him in the groin.
Hard.
Angelus made an extremely high-pitched sound and fell to the ground.
"Wow. I bet that really hurt," Mel deadpanned as she picked up her gun and leveled it at Angelus' head. "Don't worry. This will too."
And then she pulled the trigger.
The blast connected, knocking Angelus unconscious...
...and totally screwing up his hair to boot. Which was the real pain, deep down.
Mel looked at the stake in her hand and then at Angelus lying on the ground.
It was a good couple of moments before she sighed and threw him over her shoulder. "Damn it Xander," she grunted as she headed toward the trooper station. "He better worth the rutting effort."
