Setting: 26 years ago, wo genetically engineered viruses - Marburg-Amberlee and the Kellis flu - met in a non-laboratory setting, mutated, and merged to become Kellis-Amberlee (commonly called KA), a virus that cures cancer, the common cold, and death. Or, more specifically, a virus that turns the dead into zombies, which can turn the living into zombies as well through bites or bodily fluids causing the live virus to enter the bloodstream via cuts or mucus membranes. This, of course, led to a huge outbreak of zombies, that was referred to as the Rising. During the Rising, mainstream news were dangerously behind on reporting the truth, and was put to shame by the bloggers of the internet, who reported that the dead were rising and eating faces, and what you could do to protect and defend yourself from them. As a result, blogging has risen to a position of journalistic legitimacy.
By 2040, the world has become a very different place. Blogging professionally requires a journalism license, and it is very possible - if you're talented, lucky, and have good content - to make a living off blogging. Everything tends to work over a wireless connection, including phones, and it's nearly impossible to find a place that doesn't have a wireless signal. Journalists with certain license types are allowed to be armed. Blood tests (testing for the live KA virus that would mean amplification has started and the person would soon be a zombie) are a multiple-times-daily occurrence, if you leave the house, and bleach decontamination showers are mandatory and logged. Shopping malls, concerts, any sort of place or event where large crowds of people would've gathered pre-Rising are a thing of the past. Travel is a dangerous and time-consuming ordeal, and most people rarely leave home anymore, preferring to live vicariously through the bloggers they follow. Because any mammal over 40 lbs can amplify, large pets are almost unheard of, and red meat and dairy are no longer viable food options. Government - in the US at least - is basically unchanged, though the CDC is a much more powerful entity in the post-Rising world. And since every mammal on the planet is infected with KA, becoming a zombie is basically an inevitability.
Buffy plays two vastly different roles as one of the founders of the After the End Times blog site, with the Masons. The first is the head of the Fictionals, the bloggers who write stories and poems to distract and entertain. Buffy is perfectly suited to the role of Fictional, being a little ditzy, full of fantasy, and a little exotic (having been born in the lost-to-zombies land of Alaska). She's slightly less suited to being in charge of other Fictionals, who need more herding than the Newsies or Irwins, but she does the job well enough. The second role she plays is tech guru - she's in charge of the hardware the Masons use, the infrastructure and security of the site, graphics and video edits for Shaun and Georgia, and basically anything tech related. While she is a good Fictional, she is (as Shaun would say) a goddess of tech stuff. She's not the best in the world (probably), but she's good enough that even the combined efforts of other tech people the Masons could find couldn't match her, and her skills allow them to have a really top-notch site, with skillful graphics and fantastic security.
Personality:
Buffy is, generally, a cheerful and friendly person. She likes meeting new people and making friends, and she tends to think the best of people until they've proven they need to be considered otherwise. She's the quintessential Fictional - social, a little out of touch with reality, and creative. Her creativity spills over to her wardrobe (flashy, colourful, eye-catching) and her tastes in entertainment (everything from pre-rising pop culture to the latest dramatic doomed love story on her best friend's blog).
Like most people of her generation, she gets somewhat uncomfortable in large crowds - at least large crowds of people she doesn't know. If she knows everyone, she's perfectly happy to settle in for a weekend of grindhouse movies with a dozen other Fictionals at her friend Maggie's house. A dozen strangers, however, would put her on edge, unless Shaun and Georgia were there. Having the Masons around puts her significantly more at ease regardless of the situation, generally speaking, because they always know how to handle things, at least in her mind. She is not as socially phobic as many people, however, and she can handle large crowds (her idea of "large" being a couple dozen people) without freaking out or getting unduly nervous.
While Buffy is a bit detached from reality, and occasionally air-headed, she is a very intelligent young woman, and a lot sharper and quicker on the uptake than most people assume - an assumption she often makes no effort to correct. She plays up the bubbly, air-headed blonde fictional persona because like her flashy clothes and accessories, it distracts from the fact that she's quite often filming things from the various hidden cameras on her body, or asking questions whose answers will be of most use to, say, a Newsie like Georgia. People are a little more open with her because they don't expect her to be smart.
Buffy is a very loyal person, to her family. Her family being her parents, Georgia and Shaun, Maggie, and a few other close friends. She is closest to Georgia, Shaun, and Maggie, however, and considers them the most important people in her life. While she has had a string of boyfriends to parade for the gossip journalists/reader interest purposes, none of them have been overly serious. She has recently had a somewhat more serious relationship with one of the campaign staff, Chuck. Recently, however, she's had to deal with guilt because she had betrayed the Ryman campaign and (more importantly) Shaun and Georgia by giving unknown people access to the AtET servers (and consequently the Ryman's servers, as they had been linked for ease of information sharing) to help "lead the country back to God". She did not realise until relatively recently that the information was being used to plan attacks on the campaign and the Ryman family, and the guilt pushed her to cut off the access, which led to the crash and her imminent (but avoided by being pulled into Sing) death.
Obviously, then, Buffy is a religious person. She is a practising Catholic, goes to mass in person on Sundays (when many people "attend" broadcast services over the internet), and generally believes very strongly in God. She isn't the sort to try to convert people, but if you get to know her at all, it does become somewhat obvious that she is deeply religious. She does believe that the country has strayed from the path it should have been following and that getting closer to God can help, but she also doesn't feel the need to try to convert everyone. She believes that God is merciful and that as long as you're a good person, he will give you a chance to redeem yourself after death.

There was a bang, the truck lost control. Buffy wasn’t sure how it happened, one second they were driving normally, the next they were careening out of control, and Buffy was screaming and wondering how she had the time to wish that she’d worn her seatbelt. Then the world started tipping, she hit her head on something, and everything went black.
She wasn’t sure how long she was unconscious, but she was awakened by some sort of noise and announcement. She didn’t catch the words, but it was enough to wake her up. She started coughing, her lungs burning from what tasted like smoke, and pushed herself up enough to look around. The dark road, the van, the equipment truck she and Chuck had been in... None of it was anywhere to be seen. She was on the ground near large piles of what looked like junk. There was no one around, and this was like nowhere she’d ever seen.
“Woah,” she whispered, then looked around nervously. There was an exit nearby, and plenty of places for zombies to be hiding. While she wanted to wait and see if anyone she knew was maybe unconscious around a corner, she wasn’t brave enough to look for herself. She scrambled for the exit and breathed a sigh of relief when the door sealed behind her.
Wherever she was, she wasn’t going to panic. She’d just pretend she was Shaun, and that this was all an exciting adventure. Maybe she could even pull it off.
She crossed herself, said a silent prayer for protection, and stepped further in.

This should really be easier to figure out... [ There's a bit of rustling, and then a hologram of a pretty blonde young woman's head and shoulders appears ] Oh, there we go, it should be working. Hello! I'm... not entirely sure how I got here, but it could be worse, I guess. And holograms! Isn't that cool?
Um... so my name is Georgette Meissonier, but you can call me Buffy, everybody does. I just sort of appeared in the big pile of junk, and there was a car crash before that so I'm a little worried... is Chuck Wong here? Or Shaun and Georgia Mason? Or Rick Cousins? Or... anybody? [ her voice wobbles a little, though she's still trying valiantly to smile ] I'd really like it if somebody I knew were here.
