The rumors had been circulating everywhere, and Alfred had been hard-pressed to make much sense out of all of them. He had gotten no confirmation that it was Bruce, not anything that he could believe for sure, but it certainly sounded like him from what he'd been able to hear. How many men could there be in the world doing that exact same thing, anyway? Besides, something in his intuition said that Master Bruce was not, could not be, truly gone. He would have put it down to wishful thinking but for the fact that he knew better. He had accepted the deaths of the elder Waynes, not without sorrow but with a grave finality. The death of young -- not so young anymore, but far too younger than him, in any case -- Bruce was a different matter entirely
