Teddy Altman
He had graduated from high school.
Oh god, he was an adult now and needed to get to work on those vague plans he'd had to ask his sister to help him find Kl'rt so he could take the throne. Even if he still was terrified of the thought.
So, instead of doing that, he was at the park. Throwing bits of stale bread at the ducks. Procrastination was the bane of his generation.
Jean-Paul Beaubier
And then Jean-Paul walked up and said, "I suppose congratulations are in order."
Teddy
Teddy sat up, looking over at who had spoken. "Mr. Beaubier," He said with a small grin. "Yeah, I guess so."
Jean-Paul
"So are you nervous?" Jean-Paul asked. "About going out into the world? What are your plans?"
Teddy
Nodding quite a bit, Teddy leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. "Nervous? Yeah. I--guess I'll be going to find someone for help in this whole... royalty thing."
Jean-Paul
"Royalty...thing?" Jean-Paul asked, looking down at Teddy. He was still smiling.
Teddy
Sometimes Teddy forgot that no everyone followed the Avenger's movements like he did when he was younger.
"The reason why I came here," He said with a sigh. "Keeping me out of the way to prevent another flare up in the Kree/Skrull fighting. I need to find the Super Skrull or something to do what he wanted a few years ago."
Finally.
Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul's smile faded. "I think that would be a mistake."
Teddy
The faint hopeful grin faded from Teddy's face. "...you do?"
Jean-Paul
"You know how the Skrulls are," Jean-Paul said. "Completely treacherous. They can't be trusted. Why would you want to involve yourself with them?"
Teddy
"I can't just do nothing," Teddy said, showing that sense of heroism that was trained into him by nearly worshiping the Avengers for so many years. "They're supposed to-- they are my people."
Jean-Paul
And Jean-Paul's smile was gone completely. "No. They are not your people."
Teddy
"Are you okay, Mr. Beaubier?" Teddy asked, really confused by that comment now.
Jean-Paul
"I am fine, Teddy. You will not be, if you don't stay out of the way of the Skrulls."
Teddy
"Is everything alright back home?" Teddy asked, now worried he missed something to do with them. Someone would have e-mailed him, right?
Jean-Paul
"No," Jean-Paul said. "Everything is not at all well back home. But we are going to fix that."
Teddy
"...we are?"
Jean-Paul
"You are not included in 'we,'" Jean-Paul informed him, dipping his chin.
Teddy
Teddy started to edge away just a little, not sure what he was trying to get at, but knowing it didn't make him feel the safest. "What's going on?"
Jean-Paul
"Stay out of the affairs of Skrulls, Mr. Altman," Jean-Paul advised. "Keep your head down. And they just might let you live."
Teddy
"Let me live? Who are you?" Teddy asked, off the bench and keeping his focus on Jean-Paul in case of--well, he wasn't even sure.
Jean-Paul
"I'm Jean-Paul Beaubier, of course," he said. Butter wouldn't have melted in his mouth.
Teddy
Taking a few steps backward, Teddy shook his head. "I don't believe you."
Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul didn't move an inch, but tilted his head. "But who else would I be?"
Teddy
"I--" He had no idea. "Just leave me alone, alright?" Teddy said, taking more steps away to put distance between them.
This was the last thing he needed.
Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul's smile was back. "Stay out of my way and maybe I will."
Teddy
With one last look at the thing that couldn't be Mr. Beaubier, Teddy turned and fled to find Chad. This was very, very wrong.
He needed to find someone to help him.
Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul made no move to follow him. Instead he turned around and headed off somewhere else.
The ducks never seemed to realize anything was wrong.
