That whole desensitized thing is a lot worse when the world you came from tended to be just as unusual and random as this one. As is my case. The odd weather, the uncertain danger around every corner, even the "plucky cast of characters." Minus the lack of powers and the whole dark and depressing thing and it's almost like home to me.
