What I've Been Reading
Reading List 2014-2015 School Year:

I get asked about this every so often, and I'm always willing to recommend a good book, so some years ago I thought I'd follow the lead of one of my favourite authors, Diane Duane, who has something similar up on her page. Books I re-read are heartily endorsed ( Read more... )

Glad you wrote something-I often wonder how you are doing-have not heard of the book "The Twilight of the American Enlightenment: The 1950s and the Crisis of Liberal Belief" by George Marsden-I have a couple of books by Marsden in my library-years ago I heard Marsden speak on Jonathan Edwards-may the Lord bless! Jonny (Did you know Walter M. Miller Jr. wrote a sequel to "A Canticle For Leibowitz" titled, "Saint Leibowitz And The Wild Horse Woman"?-I have both volumes in our library.)

Hi! Sorry, still struggling with re-incorporating the LiveJournal after what the Russians did with it three years ago, and the vast photo library I had organized here became a scrambled mess, still without the simple tools to re-organize it. And since most everyone I keep in touch with is on or migrated over to Facebook, that inferior product became my main social media outlet. I take it that you don't keep a Facebook account?

My brother gave me the Wild Horse Woman sequel when I passed through his place in January, but I've not tackled it yet: my mood and my immediate needs changed with the start of the new semester.

Hi! Sorry! As I just wrote above, I'm more stuck on Facebook as social media because that's where most of my friends and family are, and so I didn't see this until now.

That's a hard call, as they are both excellent. The Seven Storey Mountain is more familiar, as it's early/mid 20th century, but, in the full, annotated version of Maria Boulding's translation, I would point to The Confessions as the ultimate classic of the genre. The historical notes help, as it's more removed culturally from us, but it's an unbelievably rich book, which rewards re-reading to an excessive degree.
