I get the impression that the maintainers didn't really want to put any time into this , and were using any excuse to get you to go elsewhere.. The allowable function pointer to inline is something I was unaware of, cute.

Yes, that's precisely the impression I got. Which was a bit frustrating. I also was unaware that pointers to inline functions worked. I had never considered that case before. But I knew immediately that this wasn't the bug in this case.

Apparently, that's what the TOPP sysadmin likes, so that's what all the machines use. Fortunately, they're really, really fast machines, so emerge isn't too bad. Unfortunately, gentoo still sucks.
