Heh, my experience with cell phone companies thus far is they all suck ass, and are just waiting for you to go out of their very rigid rules so they can fuck you as hard as they can. Originally I only thought Verizon sucked ass, but it just turns out they all do. I hope you can get the FCC to kick their ass, but the government is in bed with all those companies, so I don't expect much from that front.

I find it amazing any of this technology works at all. I wonder if the more modern cell markets overseas have this much retardation built in. Clearly, it's your fault for moving :-(

As for you question, I haven't a clue, hope you find someone to help.

I have no solutions, but I have amazing luck calling companies and getting solutions. Do you want me to try?

Thanks, but I think they're not lying about the billing systems. The only way I'm going to get what I want is via the FCC or a lawsuit forcing Cingular to do the right thing.

One option: create an AIX DID (718) with Voicepulse Connect and have Asterisk forward the calls to the other number. With some luck, you could later port out the 718 number. Costs are $11/mo for the DID (free incoming), and generally less than 1 cent/min outgoing.

If I had enough upstream bandwidth on my Asterisk setup, I'd host the service for you. If you have the bandwidth available on another Linux box, I'd be happy to help you get a setup in place.

Alas, I don't have access to a server with the requisite bandwidth/uptime characteristics. But it looks, on further search, like there are a couple of companies who will do the forwarding for us for aroudn $15/mo (including enough minutes). Since we hopefully only need it for a few months, until the FCC gets its ass in gear, this is not unreasonable.

I could provide the asterisk setup, if you're interested. But it sounds like $15 a month is pretty reasonable compared with the cost of getting a DID from Voicepulse.

Actually, it'll be about the same with the amount that I use the phone. Especially if Voicepulse can be set up to send its outgoing calls from Boston, so that effectively all calls will be local. Let me talk to regyt about it.
