gardening end

Sep 02, 2014 20:55

The new apartment does not have any patio or balcony space, so I'll have to harvest what I can & let the rest die, I guess.

It's a really frustrating situation. If I had any idea earlier this year that we'd be moving, I would not have begun this project in the first place.

I try to talk people out of buying a house, but one of the things that factors in is whether they're gardeners or not. It's really hard to garden rented space. I'm sorry.

If it's any consolation, half the time (more!) I forget to harvest and everything goes to seed. Sigh.

I'm trying to figure what I can restart next year as simply windowsill plants next year. I've found that I actually use fresh basil a lot, so if I have a south-facing window, I'll try that from seed. I used the thyme a fair amount as well as the parsley. If the cilantro had survived, I would have used that as well.

We'll see as soon as I get a lay of the land. In the interim, I don't even know if it's worth it to hollow out the flowerpots & lug them over to the new place.

I spent a ridiculous amount on this project for something to last only five months. I completely would have done something else with that money.

At least with things going to seed on your own land, you get a return next season, yes? (Of course, you actually farm real, fleshy veggies, so I can see how that is disappointing, to not enjoy the literal fruits of your labor.)

Well, the reason I moved the plants out in the first place is because they came from the nursery with whiteflies on them. I would be really reluctant to bring any back inside after a whole season out-of-doors ( ... )

I feel your pain. We're in a place where we have no outdoor space of our own and I can't do a window garden until my toddler learns to keep her hands out of it. Over the winter though, you can browse all the internet plans for window gardens. I've seen many that are space efficient and attractive. The Instructables site is probably a good start.
